Besides the obvious issues of leaving out essential gen 1 Pokemon (surely theyll be patched or DLC eventually).

One of the chief graphical issues I noticed was objects having a short render distance. But I was playing BOTW today and I noticed a lot of objects also have short render distances on that game. I measured. An NPC rendered when Link was 40 steps away, and then unrendered when Link was 55 steps away. Thats short enough for plenty of objects to look like theyre appearing/disappearing if you look for it.

So how is the game overall, really? Do technical issues really weigh it down?

I've been playing it. The wild area is ass. Online sucks. The pop in is awful, sometimes a group of pokemon wont populate the world until you're right on top of them lol the towns and routes are okay though. Ridiculously easy even for a pokemon game but the collecting is fun. Catching pokemon seems to be the most difficult part of this game.

It's got other technical issues involving the Switch itself, but other than that I heard it's a fun game at the least. The formula's proving it still works, just people were expecting more from a first mainline console release.

It's about as fun as any Pokemon game, but it does feel like a 3DS game that's on the Switch.

And there's no real difficulty at all with EXP Share always on, and the Wild Area giving you Rare Candies out the fuckin wazoo.
