The US in WW1 was little more than a fuckton of warm bodies for the Allied Powers side, who eventually won because the English invented the tank first.

The US in WW2 was a vastly different story, because United States and Canada were the only belligerent nations who didn't end the war as a smoldering crater.

I'm not so sure it was the Tanks, they came relatively late and were rather ineffective.
The generally owned the air, until their numbers dwindled and they were forced to create Jastas.
I think it was a typical German overreach.
And people tend to forget there was an Eastern Front.

The whole thing was a shit show though, for sure.

For the first time, in 30 years, Germany went for the overreach.

That, WWI in color is pretty good as well.

In the other room, I have an old book with graphical pictures of the war.
It's kinda crazy. I gotta fish it out.

I also have All Quiet on the Western Front, and its sequel, The Road Home.

I guess, I've always had a soft spot for that war.

You can't forget that the Russians were forced at gunpoint to sign the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk in March 1918 -- which ended the war in the East, and allowed the Germans to transfer hundreds of thousands of their soldiers to the Western Front in time for Germany's Spring Offensive.

WW1 was not a minor conflict for the United States.

The United States Army suffered more combat deaths in France in 1918 -- more than half of them in just the last seven weeks of the war -- than throughout the whole of the Pacific campaign in WW2. The Battle of Meuse-Argonne remains one of the biggest and the bloodiest battle in all of US military history: in forty-seven days of brutal combat in and around the Argonne forest, around twice as many American soldiers were killed in action than were killed on Okinawa 27 years later.

In fact the average US daily combat death rate in France in WW1 soared to 77% of the rate in all theatres combined in WW2, and the same proportion of US military personnel on active service died in the earlier conflict (2.4%) as in the later one (2.5%).

There was nothing bad ass about the US during WW1. iirc we were selling oil and steel to both sides. All we cared about was getting more wells drilled. Oil industry was at an all time high and during this time there was no such thing as a labor union for the industry so it was also at its bloodiest. Majority of the profits were then put back into funding the campaigns of politicians who would treat the industry heads favorably and impede any future efforts to get a union going

Not to mention we used it as a nice little segue to occupy Russia shortly after and strong arm the bolsheviks out of their resources and fuck up their revolution.
