Felt like sharing this since the Australian Tax Office sends out this nice little summary each year with what your tax dollars got spent on with numbers based on your own personal income tax amount.



It's interesting to see that despite what people think, the biggest individual category is actually healthcare (thank you Medicare/public hospitals?) and whilst everyone loves to target welfare/transfer payments, the unemployment component is relatively small compared to the aged care component which I presume includes both retirement homes and old age pensions.

Note: I have blurred out the last two digits of each number but at least it gives you an indicator of ratio. And before anyone asks, the total is tax assessed based on your net income (i.e. global income less any deductions you've claimed).

Not enough is going into infrastructure
Too much is going to mates of politicians
