A University of Toronto student union refused to support a campaign by the schools Hillel to make kosher food available on campus, since doing so would be pro-Israel.

The Graduate Student Union told a Jewish student representing Hillel in requesting support for its Kosher Forward campaign in an email that supporting the kosher food campaign would go against the will of the membership, Hillel said in a statement alleging discrimination on the part of the student union.

The Graduate Student Union voted in 2012 to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, or BDS movement against Israel.

Hillel strongly condemns this type of rhetoric, which associates support of the State of Israel with a campaign to make campus more accessible for Jewish students, the statement said.

This inability to separate Jewish individuals from the Israeli governments actions is, indeed, a form of anti-Semitism, the statement also said.

The Graduate Student Union at University of Toronto is the only student union in Canada with a committee dedicated to promoting the BDS movement, according to Bnai Brith of Canada. A complaint against this BDS committee has been pending before the universitys Complaint and Resolution Council for Student Societies for over six months.

On Sunday, Bnai Brith of Canada wrote to officials at the university, asking them to swiftly condemn the Graduate Student Unions stance on the kosher food initiative, ensure that the complaint against the GSU BDS Committee is expedited, and work to make kosher food more accessible on campus.

Just market it as both. You won't be taking a side and the dietary needs of the students will be being fulfilled

That's not true

Halal requires prayers for individual animals, Kosher requires a Sachet, Halal uses the entire animal, Kosher only designates parts of the animal as good to eat, Halal considers more animals than Kosher restrictions, Kosher allows alcohol in food (like wine), Halal does not.

They have definite similarities, but it's not totally the same.

I never said they were. Just that I can eat kosher (non-alcoholic) food, since the requirements for food being kosher are stricter than those requiring food to be halal

BDS is nothing more than a front for open anti-Semitism, I'm glad it's against the law in many parts of the US.

Not to mention BDS was started by countries long hostile to Israel's existence as a Jewish homeland (*cough*Arab League*cough*) and not because of Israel's government treatment of Palestinians like the current narrative goes.

Support BDS and you basically support the countries that are butt devastated because one tiny country steamrolled all of them in every war.
