Is a game that has been rendered outclassed by a later game not worth playing?

I was thinking about starting GE since I've had it in my collection for a long time (I bought it as part of a pack of N64 games at a pawn shop and I had never really played it aside from multiplayer matches at a friend's house otherwise). I get that PD is a superior game but I have that on Xbox 360 and I'd like to at least try GE.

This also after I played GE on the Wii (and still hope to start GE Reloaded on PS3).

Games that are "outclassed" are still worth playing, but seriously FPS on the N64 have aged like milk. This includes Perfect Dark. Yes, it was amazing at the time, but not great now.

Sorry, not sorry.

What, this isn't Resident Evil? Dying means nothing. It's simply a minor setback, if that.-radioraheem

GE has a richer history when it comes to speed running.

Overall, GE is worth a play if you like retro games like that. There are some ways that it's better than PD. Overall IMO it has more charm.

Eh, PD itself was later outclassed by TimeSplitters 2, but you don't really see people talking about it too much. Hell, it's like people forgot the game even exists.

I think the original TimeSplitters was more famous (and otherwise TimeSplitters: Future Perfect). TS2 kind of fell between the cracks.

I think that depends. If the earlier game still ages gracefully enough that it's fun to play, then I'll still play it.
If a later game has spoiled me with quality of life improvements to the point where the older game is a chore to navigate, then I'll probably not play it again.

Final Fantasy Legend is a good example of a game I'm not likely to revisit because at this point it's just too clunky. FFL 2 I'll probably not revisit because the DS remake is pretty much a universal improvement. FFL 3 I could imagine replaying because the remake is sufficiently different and the original still plays pretty smoothly.

Mega Man hurts to play a little bit because it's not easily accessible. Mega Man 2 is still fine.

People say THPS1 is unplayable now but it's such a fat overstatement it's not even funny.

FFs 1 through at least 4 are good examples of games whose ports/remakes essentially made the originals obsolete.

As long as the game is still fun, it's still worth playing.

I still play GE every now and again. I feel, while it's a dated and flawed game, it gets shit on way too much. It's almost like it's backlash for it being popular and heralded back in the day.
