How involved are Elrond, Galadriel and Gandalf during this period?

McKellen is down and these are immortal motherfuckers. If their parts are minimal, they could easily just get them. At the very least Gandalf. If its a comprehensive backstory on Sauron that doesnt include the actual war of the ring, Gandalf would be in like 4 minutes of it, honestly, and he would be arguing with CGI Christopher Lee about how to spend their resources.
