It was pretty good.

It feels like a high budget triple AAA American movie too, just in Korean.

Yeah, I made a topic about it like 2 weeks ago. I went in not knowing much about the film other than skimming the review in TimeOut. It was immensely captivating and the first half was surprisingly hilarious.

I went in completely blind. I didn't even know it was the same director as snowpiercer

All I heard was that it was good and that I should see it.

Going in, I thought it was a horror movie. I'm glad I was wrong.

You know tho this is the first I'm hearing it was made by director Bong tho, so I'm kinda bummed. Honestly tho reading plot details doesn't ruin shit for me, just gets me more excited to experience it for myself.

See, I thought it was going to be a horror movie because everyone has being saying that. I'm not sure where that comes from. It's more of a thriller than anything else.

I mean, what would you call it? A thriller? The concept sounds scary as fuck to me.

Burning and Parasite are 1A and 1B of favorite Korean movies of the past few years. Game changers.

Bong movies are hodgepodges of genres and techniques. It's hard to classify his works because they encompass so much.

It's definitely a thriller. (and not a horror movie)

Major spoilers I guess

there is nothing super natural about the movie, and there really isn't any danger elements until the end of the movie and by that point, you almost no longer sympathize with the protagonists anymore. And it's not like you are scared either, more shocked by the events unfolding

Did you guys absolutely adore Snowpiercer too? I did, and I love everything from director Bong, but Parasite didn't actually get theatrical in my city. I really want to watch it, I'm a huge fan of Korean films.

tbh, I wasn't really feeling Snowpiercer, so Parasite being directed by the same guy wasn't a draw, for me.

I'm glad I ended up watching it, though.

how's the pacing?

acclaimed korean movies seem to have notoriously slow pacing. burning was another really slow one that required a certain mood to get into.

I love Snowpiercer but it might be his weakest film. Definitely look at his other stuff.

I wasn't much of a fan either. I like the concept, but the execution of Snowpiercer was kind of lame.

I'm glad I didn't know it was the same guy because it would have made the movie more predictable in the sense they cover the same themes. But what makes Parasite great and Snowpiercer lackluster was the subtitly and more realistic protrayal of class. Snow Piercer made the rich comically evil and made the movie completely black and white. Parasite doesn't demonize rich people in any way. It feels more realistic and true to life, and because of that, has more commentary to offer regarding real life than Snow Piercer does. Obviously Parasite isn't 100% realistic and it doesn't try to be. But it offers more value has societal commentary because it has more believable characters and scenarios.

It's fast paced. Maybe drags a bit at the end.
