It is both disappointing for what it could/should be and yet still a generally fun game.

It rests on its laurels a little too much but if youre hankering for a pokemon game, it does the job. Plus Ive always wanted an open area with Pokemon walking around, even if it could be better.

It's a bunch of people forgetting the Switch is supposed to have both handheld games and downgraded home console games. They expect every switch game to strive to compete with PS4/Xbone

it doesn't have to equal PS4/Xbone, but it would be nice if it at least competed with gamecube era games

I haven't played a Pokemon game since Red/Yellow, but I beat those like 20 times. I am about 4 hours in, and really enjoying everything about the game. No idea if the animations are reused or not, but all the battles look great. I forgot how much I enjoyed Pokemon lol especially when I don't know anything about the new ones, seeing what random ass monster pops out in each area is awesome. It is really easy to get side tracked and just go explore and fight Pokemon. 4 hours in and still haven't even gotten to the first gym yet.

My main problem now is that I just have too many cool Pokemon I want on my team, I wish we could have more than 6 at a time! Also not sure if I like the Exp Share or not, I remember having to grind a lot in Gen 1 to level up your Pokemon individually, and now your Pokemon get a LOT of experience, quick. Probably good they got rid of a lot of the monotonous grind, but I might have a super team for the rest of the game if I spend too much time exploring.

Also, getting rid of the random encounters and being able to see what is in the grass is soooooooo much better

Sword/Shield is definitely a good game, but they're lackluster in content compared to some of the past titles.

I'll skip on it for now because I'm banking on a definitive version next year, hopefully with more effort. Sun/Moon felt like a waste of money when the definitive versions released a year later.

Yep. I understand people saying its fun and a good first try at a bigger scale, if lacking in some ways, and Im having a good time and I understand people saying this isnt a small indie dev, theres no reason to give them a pass on these expectations

I find both reasonable and mileage may vary

I watched XQC played through the game instead

Its great so far. Unlike some previous games, they focused on strong Pokmon. There are *so* many powerful teams to make.

I was getting sick of every new Pokmon having shitty stats or eight weaknesses, but maybe thats just me.

Im enjoying how Im just getting to the first town and Ive already got like 20 Pokmon just from chilling in the wild area a bit. Not used to feeling spoiled for choice.

Yeah, I hate that about the other games. How the first routes only have a small handful of pokemon so everyone ends up building the same team of pokemon early on
