Well, what is reality? It's how an individual perceives the world through his/her senses.

What an intellectually dishonest simplification of a dangerous issue.

@HiddenRoar

Why can't you just use "Their"? Through their senses

Drives me nuts that so many people say it like that

So is repeatedly peddling the idea that nicotine vaping is causing those lung injuries and deaths, pushing people back onto cigarettes, which are actually known to kill thousands per year, all because "think of teh children!".

In appeals, that's how it SHOULD go. But I'm unfamiliar with their appeals circuit.

BRB going to law school there. The answer is Jesus. Always Jesus. Just Jesus.

We probably shouldn't say anything about vaping period until we know the long term effects it may have. Unknown is not a synonym for safe.

I mean, sorry that you think religion is something people made up because they were bored. We still have a right to it.

But to be fair to science and academic integrity, the students should still have to write the proper answer. They should be allowed to write as scientifically agreed upon or some such disclaimer. They shouldn't be allowed to write, "God did it," and skip studying altogether.

No, it was definitely made up for different reasons than that. And what does the right to believe have to do with anything?

Especially since you go on to say that we need to maintain academic integrity and that they can't just say "God did it"?

Either children go to school to be taught or there is no point to send them to school. Their parents can just read them the holy book of their choosing and keep them home if that's going to be what they really believe. It really isn't something that you can have both ways like with your disclaimer idea.

School is supposed to be for learning. Not for 13 years of babysitting when your parents are too busy to teach you "the truth".

I wanted to get ahead of this because I knew this would posted here, but I was too late.
I think this is a good (or neutral) bill.

No school district board of education, governing authority of a community school established under Chapter 3314. of the Revised Code, governing body of a STEM school established under Chapter 3326. of the Revised Code, or board of trustees of a college-preparatory boarding school established under Chapter 3328. of the Revised Code shall prohibit a student from engaging in religious expression in the completion of homework, artwork, or other written or oral assignments. Assignment grades and scores shall be calculated using ordinary academic standards of substance and relevance, including any legitimate pedagogical concerns, and shall not penalize or reward a student based on the religious content of a student's work

If a teacher asks, "How old is the Earth?" And a kid answers, "The bible says 6000-ish years old, but the geological data suggests 4.5 billion years." - that would be a correct answer. A student can't be penalized (or rewarded) based on their religion so long as they give the academic answer.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." I think it's the first line of the first amendment. Accepting wrong answers based on religious beliefs is an endorsement of religion. Public schools are government institutions. They have to abide by the separation of church and state.

Students can write whatever dumb bullshit they want as an answer, but a public school teacher cannot imply that a religious belief is a valid answer. Just like if a kid wants to pray before a test, he can. But a public school teacher cannot tell a student to pray.

Frankly it's frightening that such a bill can get passed on a state level.

Also, some posters really showed their true colors ITT.

What if a teacher asks "What is 4 minus 7?" and a kid answers "My religion says 0 because no number is less than it, but modern arithmetic believes -3"?

Okay, let me put it another way. Let's use a secular example; something that doesn't run into conflict between science and religion.

A question on a middle school history test reads, "In which famous battle was Davy Crockett killed?" A student taking the test believes the controversial theory that Crockett was not killed in the Battle of the Alamo, but was instead taken prisoner and later executed. It should be a right answer to write, "Davy Crockett is believed to have died in the Battle of the Alamo."

Your job as a student is to learn the material, not to agree with it.
