That's totally what those games were. Even Pandemic themselves said they essentially jacked Battlefield's style.
Hell, the EA games are less like Battlefield than the Pandemic games (why I liked the original Battlefronts more).

Exactly. Part of the reason at the time is because people were bitching about how they don't want EA to turn it into Star Wars: Battlefield, not realizing that Star Wars: Battlefield is exactly what they want because that's what the original games were.

So DICE tried to come up with a way to not make their first Battlefront game "Battlefield in a Star Wars skin" (a.k.a the original Battlefront games...).

Implying that that excuse from DICE is even true, you can see why that task in and of itself was a lose-lose situation.

Yeah, in reality when people were asking for game that wasn't Battlefield, they were actually asking for a Battlefield game that they wouldn't suck at.

Dude, remember that cancelled Battlefront III where it was essentially Battlefield with updated graphics and Star Wars vehicles? It looked sexy as fuck.
