Guy: That sucks, I'm sorry that happened. Some people are real bastards.

Girl: Some creepy guy followed me home last night. It's made me scared to walk alone at night now.
Guy: Are you sure he was following you? Maybe he just happened to be walking the same way. Maybe he only seemed creepy because of his disheveled appearance. Just because he's a big guy doesn't mean he's scary. He probably felt just as awkward. Maybe he is unwell? You know it's not really fair to judge all men just because of that one guy, we're not all bad. Also did you call the cops? You probably shouldn't have been walking home alone anyway. Look I'm not saying it's your fault but out of interest what were you wearing?

He is referring to how if it has been some attractive hot rich guy with flowing charisma following you, you would not of called him creepy.

But either way a guy stalking you is a very dangerous thing and they might do it again.

Be hyper observent and keep some type of weapon on you for a few weeks. (Such as a tazer)

If you spot him again report it to police.

The moral of the story is that people suck? If they're not stealing your shit, they're making your problems all about them?

This is one of those stupid memes that any woman will tell you is not true but men continue to believe it anyway

The moral of the story is next time a girl tells you some creepy guy did a creepy, there's no need to take a finetooth comb to her testimony like you're the would-be defendant's lawyer.

Are you sure it was your house? Maybe you actually live in a different house that looked the same, and you were the one breaking in.

In one of these situations an actual crime was committed; they aren't even analogous dude.

It is indeed not necessarily a crime to happen to walk in the same direction as a lady, eheu. A savvy observation indeed sir.

Whether a crime was technically committed or not in the eyes of the law is obviously not remotely the point of the analogy, I can tell you that much

Do you think if a girl told a guy that someone broke into her house last night and she's scared to be home alone he would question her in the same way?

Yes there are plenty of douchebags that question women in situations like that, but like 16-Bitter said I don't understand the point of the comparison as both sexes are going to be treated the same way if their house is broken into.

No, which really highlights how odd it is when guys grill women for being scared or vigilant to sexual assault/rape/creepy stalker situations

When someone breaks into your house, you don't tend to get an unending sermon about how you should have had better locks, lived in a better neighbourhood, had a camera system installed, etc. And you especially don't get any number of excuses given to the thieves for how their lives must be hard or they were simply misunderstood or how this shouldn't affect how you behave in future towards strangers near your house.

yea tc i dont get it. not the same scenario at all. i understand the point in not being dismissive of women, but like why make them different levels of danger

Yeah I don't know what planet you're living on dude, I totally agree that women get 20 questions when it comes to a guy potentially following them but when their house is broken into they get sympathy like anyone should.

The point of analogy is to illustrate something often using an exaggerated example - it's not to give an entirely equitable comparison that is like-for-like in all manners.

Also since we're talking about it, do you think a guy following a girl home is automatically less danger than a home break in? I mean robbers just want your TV.

That's...entirely the point I'm making dude. Nobody questions a home break in. They don't blame the victim. They just say that sucks and move on.

It is strange that victim blaming happens when we're talking some manner of sexual assault or harrassment.

I should add that to the list of unlikely hypothetical arguments guys bring up with women in these scenarios.

Look I'm not saying it's your fault but out of interest what were you wearing? Also if the situations were reversed, and it was a guy being followed...

If the girl was talking about not feeling safe after some guy assaulted her and you were talking about not feeling safe because some guy was loitering near your house, the girl would absolutely get sympathy and you would actually get a lecture on your imagination running wild.

Like you're imagining this is a sexism issue when it's really about a thing happening versus a thing not.

Read some stories about what happens after a woman is actually raped and tries to talk about it, I would suggest

Seems a little telling that you immediately jumped to the "imagination running wild" argument point even in this obviously fake hypothetical where it should have been assumed that she was being as truthful as the home-break in guy, though
