I'm real torn on getting it

Sounds like most of the more grounded reviews amount to "It's Pokemon, it's fun, there's some nice quality of life stuff, but man there's a lot of weird choices and disappointing aspects that are super baffling"

I haven't played Pokemon in a few gens because I didn't have a 3DS and I'm pretty itchy, plus the whole open world Pokemon wandering around thing is something I've wanted for ages... :/

I got it because its the first Pokmon game Ive played since bw

also I get to shit on the nintendrones

Honestly considering XY and SM aren't even good either, it's hard to recommend those over SwSh, even knowing all of its problems.

If you're willing to go far back, the pinnacle of Pokemon was undeniably HGSS or BW1/2

If you didn't own a 3DS you'd probably enjoy the game well enough. Just as long as you're expecting a standard Pokmon game.

Pokmon is one of those franchises where I need to take a break so I only play it every 3rd game or so.

Ultra Sun and Moon were solid, base sun and moon were acceptable. Everybody needs to stop shitting on them.
