If anyone says "Ok Boomer" to me, I'll just punch them in the gut and knock the air out of them while sending them flying into a wall, like I would to anyone who calls me a dumbass or idiot.

Now if they call me a asshole, I'll just gracefully accept it as being true.

Being a 245lb former marine without a drop of fat. The only one with the balls to usually call me a idiot is my wife, and I'd obviously never harm a hair on her head. The others being drunks at partys, who wake up the next day with broken ribs.

Millennial a whole generation as been turn into a slur by these people. This has been going on for like got damn 10 years. I think people can take 10 days of OK boomer.
I hate how you always use hyperbole and understatement. The phrase is what it is but you definitely lose the moral high ground if you're slinging it around in response to being called a millenial, and it's definitely going to be around for longer than 10 days.

The productivity gains in that chart are mostly due to the computer revolution improving productivity. Not sure what you thought you were posting.

Millennial unemployment rate is higher than every other generation, income per capita is lower, % living with parents as adults is higher, % owning property or investments is lower. And those are given that this generation has the highest % of college graduates.

Yeah because as the chart fucking shows were not getting compensated fairly for increased productivity and yeah DUH the innovation of industry and outsourcing of jobs is going to create unemployment, holy shit youve really outdone yourself here.

That's true, you're not getting compensated because a spreadsheet can do in a few seconds what it would have taken a worker all day to do in the 1960s. Only an entitled millennial would expect that they would be.

For the friendly commies here, those are called productivity gains from capital. The labor itself is not the source of the productivity gains.

seems like the big shift in 1970 was availability of competing labor forces, not computers

productivity didn't suddenly jump faster 1970-1980 than in preceding years, and widespread use of computers in business didn't happen until later--microsoft and apple didn't even exist until 1975-1977 and the decoupling had already happened then

The computer revolution started in the late 1960s with the IBM mainframes being designed to power the airline reservation industry. It started making its way into industry long before the desktop revolution in the 90s.

yes, it started making its way into industry earlier than this, but the delta with productivity happened well before it was a major factor in most industries.

seems more like post-wwii recovery completion in japan/europe meant american workers lost their negotiating power

Except capital wouldnt exist without labor. And most reasonable human beings would say innovative technologies should benefit workers rather than making them homeless and starving.

Most Americans believe that a rising tide should lift all boatsthat as the economy expands, everybody should reap the rewards. And for two-and-a-half decades beginning in the late 1940s, this was how our economy worked. Over this period, the pay (wages and benefits) of typical workers rose in tandem with productivity (how much workers produce per hour). In other words, as the economy became more efficient and expanded, everyday Americans benefited correspondingly through better pay. But in the 1970s, this started to change.

From 1979 to 2018, net productivity rose 69.6 percent, while the hourly pay of typical workers essentially stagnatedincreasing only 11.6 percent over 39 years (after adjusting for inflation). This means that although Americans are working more productively than ever, the fruits of their labors have primarily accrued to those at the top and to corporate profits, especially in recent years.

Rising productivity provides the potentialfor substantial growth in the pay for the vast majority. However, this potential has been squandered in recent decades. The income, wages, and wealth generated over the last four decades have failed to trickle down to the vast majority largely because policy choices made on behalf of those with the most income, wealth, and power have exacerbated inequality. In essence, rising inequality has prevented potentialpay growth from translating into actual pay growth for most workers. The result has been wage stagnation.

Unions were at their strongest at the time when productivity starts to dramatically split from wages. The productivity gains were from better technology. An auto worker in 2019 will clearly accomplish more than one in the 1960s -- not because he's harder-working or better-skilled, but because the tools are so much better that more can be done in the same time.

My phases of Okay boomer

1) What exactly has changed? It's not like anyone using it was particularly open minded to anything anyone else says anyway. It's little better than a nice catchphrase to more quickly display how often people just stick their fingers in their ears to avoid listening to anyone telling them what they don't want to hear.

2) It probably exists to replace "alt right nazi" or whatever was used before because even the left is getting tired of their shit already. The just needed something new.

3) It's actually very ironic. Boomers were the Beatnik and hippie generations so they know first hand about culture clashes with older generations, brought about a lot of social change and were some of the first to push environmentalism as concept. The Gen X-ers like me called Boomer fought for gay rights and pushed for environmental reform (you're welcome for those recycling programs). Many of us lived at least some part of our lives under fear of being nuked to death (or worse, surviving the war) and several economic hardships. Most of us understand better than you think, and if it sounds like we aren't listening, it's more because we look back at our own periods of "no one understands us" with a certain shame that comes with getting how much of a spoiled shit you were as a kid.

4) I am taking this as license to ignore any cries of racism, homophobia or whatever by anyone using the phrase. You want to use an ageist slur intended to dismiss and dehumanize others, I'm putting no effort into avoiding things that make you feel slightly bad.

And even then it wasn't boomers spamming Millenial" as a negative remark. The whole meme between boomers and millenials is stupid an not funny because boomers aren't in the equation. A meme is funny when it makes a true observation and turns it on it's head in a funny way. Like communism memes. Ok boomer seems like the younger generation just looking for attention on the internet. If any boomer is on the internet it's probably only Facebook. And that I even doubt is any large amount.
