I watched it for the first time about a week ago. Small world.

However, it was exactly what I expected.

It's a better mortal kombat movie than MK Anhilation.

Just listen to the old porkchop express and take his advice on a dark and stormy night. alright? When some wild eyed 8 foot tall maniac grabs your neck and taps the back of your favorite head up against a barroom wall and looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if you paid your dues. Well you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye and remember what old Jack Burton says at a time like that; "Have you paid your dues, Jack?" Yes sir, the check is in the mail.

BTW Kitt, the first scene with Eg talking to the reporter/lawyer/whoever (dude in the suit in the office) wasn't meant to be put in. The producers demanded it because they thought nobody would understand Jack is the hero. He's not though, he's literally meant to be a sidekick to Wang.

Oh yeah, it was dumb as fuck and who ever wrote the script was making shit up as they go. But watching it with a bunch of friends, we we're laughing the whole time. Entertaining stuff.

That's not really a high bar, tbh. Both the Mortal Kombat movies suck.

That was something I actually really liked about the movie and where it surprised me considering that it's an 80's flick; Kurt Russell's character was cool and charming, but he certainly wasn't the true hero here. More of a lovable, bumbling type. I really appreciated that.

Yeah that's what they were going for apparently was a flipflop of the usual 80s thing. Basically Jack thinks he's the hero and he's not. Like he has his moments but he's completely out of his depth which was great.

I think I should watch this now

One of my go to comfort films that I put on when feeling down or unwell, it's great. One of the Hong Kong wuxia films that really influenced John Carpenter is well worth a watch and more than its equal in terms of sheer fun, Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain.

You guys need to watch it with director commentary. Russell and Carpenter are just talking like the old friends they are and keep veering away from discussing the actual movie.

Jack was lucky to kill Lo Pan.

Wang he killed one of the warrior gods during a sword fight. I think he fought and killed Wind or Thunder.

I really don't get this.

1) who cares who 'the hero' is in a movie? Nobody ever.

2) the next scene in the intro is Jack driving his truck and saying all that shit into the radio. It's a several minute introduction to his character which then leads into the scene where he meets up with Wang. Plus Jack kills the main villain and gets more camera time. He is clearly the main character even without the opening scene, so apparently the creators did not do a good job if it was their intention to have Wang be the main character.

Calm down, guy. Nobody's saying that Russell isn't the main character. He's just acknowledging a trope that's a lot more common nowadays where you have a main character who's teamed up with a deuteragonist that's the more capable of the two of them.
