Basically, if your YouTube channel isn't making any money, your YouTube and Google Accounts are deleted.

We have known for a long time now that top staff at youtube want to make it a platform more like Netflix. It seems like they are actually starting to do it.

There is also the matter of a few youtubers I follow for remixes, and they're not that popular.

Just great, this will make it harder to find them.

Know what? Why not just go ahead and have someone start up another Channel Website, and just repopulate over there?

That way nobody has to deal with Google and Youtube anymore, sure they'll lose all that money but at least it will go back to basics just for the time being.

there are already more established alternatives we'd be competing with

youtube's power lies in its network effects, and even if a clone of youtube were created, those would be extraordinarily difficult to capture

Seems like it's going down the toilet but there really aren't any viable options. It's like saying "Let's start a new Facebook." Not even Google was able to do it, and damn near everyone has a Gmail account.

I know Google+ was a shitty alternative, but the point still stands. When a website has 99%+ market share, you're not going to take that away unless they start actively alienating your average user (like if they went full pay to watch).

youtube has way better functionality now in 2019 than it did before google bought them out. Im a content creator too, this change means little next to nothing.

Nothing you have put out as a content creator has been even remotely interesting, especially if it's been released in the last 5 years.

Bring back the funny sketch comedy groups and shit. Everything is all sterilized and the same now...

"dumb ass music"

Dumb ass content, thats shiny and neat like a fucking hospital bed.

SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON / RING THAT BELL

"dumb ass outro music"

Now with more filler so it hits that 10 minute mark baby!

At the end of the day, all the shit is the -same- on youtube anymore, except for Kobra Kai Dojo and if you're not involved in that get the fuck out boy.

This makes it sound like if you block youtube ads, they are threatening to ban your account either from all google services or just youtube.

That would be extremely lame of them to do. But if they do that, I'll just move on and continue watching adblocking youtube, but no longer while logged in.

I think people are reacting to this in the wrong way. The main problem with this is that its extremely vague and pointless of a thing to have in your terms of use unless you just put it in there to give you an excuse to remove whoever under vague undisclosed reasons.

To people saying this will close accounts of let's players with low view video counts or people using adblock or etc etc: you are being silly. Plain and simple. Sure, those accounts might not be making youtube much money, but that's a different thing from saying it's "not commercially viable" to support them. Because honestly, those sorts of people make up the vast majority of youtube's userbase. And if you're saying the majority of youtube's userbase is not commercially viable to support, how does youtube still exist?

To clarify, there are no new rights in our ToS to terminate an account bc its not making money. As before, we may discontinue certain YouTube features or parts of the service, for ex., if they're outdated or have low usage. This does not impact creators/viewers in any new ways.

From @TeamYoutube

Also I saw someone in a reddit thread basically echo this exact sentiment before this tweet. The phrasing of the new tos was just dogshit and got people up in arms.

Your YouTube account isn't gonna be tactically nuked up the ass just because you blocked a couple ads

I agree with you on most of that, except about majorities. Most internet users don't block ads. Then you have apps like youtube vanced which have very small userbases

I read the full new terms last night when I got a pop up about it. I found this part but it seems to not be as bad as the topic makes it out to be and doesn't seem to even be one of the main points of the changes. It looks like more of a "we reserve the right to do whatever" clause than a "This is one of the major changes we are implementing" thing. Even then it seems like there is an appeal process for it.
