Too often these days I see people relying on Facebook to vent their life problems.

Keeping a written diary or journal is imperative for anyone to do on a daily basis because it gives you a place where nobody else can insert their opinions into what youre thinking about.

Trust me.

This has been your dose of life wisdom.

I have 7 journals dating back to 2015.

I try to write.. A LOT.

But I guess it depends on what kind of journal... Two of mine are 400-pagers but the other ones are small.

Theres a key distinction with writing on paper... Its completely private assuming you dont share it with others.

I never liked journaling and hated when teachers would make us do it in school. It's cool that it can help you organize your thoughts, but it was never something I liked doing. I'd rather work through things in my head, and if I forget about them later oh well. It wasn't that important to me then.

I understand where youre coming from.

Nobody should be forced to write by another person... The beauty comes when you begin to see the value in the practice which makes you come back to it due to your own desire.

Don't keep a diary or use social media like facebook/twitter. But, I agree with the sentiment. People let their own opinions be tainted far too often nowadays.

My advice: if you believe that you will benefit from writing, it will naturally become a habit.

You could try sitting down just one time to give it a last chance, then make a decision about whether its worth doing again.

Would it be too difficult to try just 1 more time?

You might surprise yourself.

I get that bold part so well. There's a lot of pain in the earlier journals, but so much of it is sophomoric and juvenile, and the rantings of a beleaguered young man that came off like he couldn't truly focus into adequacy. So much is "why?"s and "how?"s, without any legitimate accompaniment.

A good bit of that is still there, now, but published with a more nuanced perspective, I hope. I'm well aware I'm communicating with a shadow that barely casts anymore, but it's a shadow that holds so much weight in my life it's one I don't truly want to extinguish - and I recognize it's an accessory of burden I crafted, instead of some solitary, autonomous albatross sent to me to be my personal chorus of bereavement.

I recognize, but I choose to be selfish.

I agree with you... Writing on a daily basis can be difficult to maintain. Even when we seemingly have a bunch of free time it can be easy to forget to write.

When I first started in 2015, I would go days and weeks without writing.

Right now Ive been on a 47-day streak of daily writing in my 7th journal dating back to September 24th, 2019.

How often you want to write is entirely up to you... I could see value in a weekly diary.

I can relate to this feeling. Some things I go back and read from my older journals make me feel a certain way and remind me of pain that happened in the past.

part of the value of writing is being able to express yourself and the reasons that youre feeling negative emotions... Its especially valuable when you want to express emotions that youre afraid to tell anyone else.

This goes back to the idea that a diary is important because it gives you a venue to privately deal with problems that youd rather not show to the public.

With that said, there are countless times where Ive read things in my old journals that filled me with positive emotions, old wisdom that I had forgotten but previously kept close to my heart and words from years ago that have inspired me in the present moment.

You take the good with the bad, and often times the good outweighs the bad

I understand what youre describing. Sometimes its embarrassing to see the words of the person we used to be.

We all go through a process of maturity where we gradually seek to be a better version of ourselves... The evolution of self can go up and down and all different directions even though we would ideally want life to go by smoothly on a straight path.

Its good to see value in our mistakes because they teach us lessons about how we might be able to grow to be happier in life.
