These are the games that I played relentlessly as a kid and which are probably the reason why I'm so addicted to computers and the internet, and they bring up so many memories it's absurd.

I still play and get my ass kicked on Oregon Trail from time to time on those DOS replay sites.

Once I learned how to cheese that... >_> That was a fun one though. I was surprised when they made a ... Kenya Trail or something like that. Never got into it though.

Since it's online can you still edit the text files for the quotes, though? You gotta keep "From Hell's heart, I stab at thee" but I used to love changing the other ones to have my brother's names in them to freak them out.

Nice find!

It is weird, I was trying out Stunt Island and things that I was flying right over weren't rendering at all >_> I don't remember that back in the day, but I could just be misremembering. Also I know there was a way to unlock helicopters but I don't remember how, either.

CPUs today are 2-3000 times as fast as they were in the early DOS era, which makes quite a few games run hilariously fast nowadays.

I played so much of one of the treasure mountain games as a kid. tried so hard to 100% the collectibles, but I know I eventually got bored playing the same thing so much that I never quite finished.

I remember running into that with Ultima 7 like a decade ago. (originally played it on a PC with 4mb of ram). IIRC, the game didn't have any kind of frame limiter or something like that, which made the game interesting to play to say the least. You know, stuff like NPC's not staying in the same place long enough to double click on them.

The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.

Speaking of DOS, when the hell is someone going to take the old MechWarrior rights from Microsoft's claws and re-release them on GOG or something.

DOSBOX is just too finicky and I'd love a stable official release of Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries just so the fans could fix all the bugs in it.

Why Mercs had so many bugs despite being run on the exact same engine as 2 I'll never know, but it probably involved Activision.

That would be annoying as shit.

That's another game that I look at now and I wonder how the hell I played it as a fucking kid, like I'm too programmed to play with minimaps and quest markers and shit.
