I'm watching Blade Runner as part of a small list of must-see classic movies I made for myself.

I've always loved these dark, rain-soaked, neon-lit dystopian cities for some reason. Like the settings for Warriors and Escape from New York. Probably because they're good environments for a conflict. I don't really get that feeling when looking at a shiny, pristine, Apple-like environment.

Also, it takes place in November 2019.

Bladerunner 2049, Big Lebowski, Scarface, Ocean's 11/12/13, Taxi Driver, Baby Driver, Hard Boiled, The Killer, and John Wick 2 and 3. The Godfather trilogy as well, but I watched them and crossed those off.

There's a couple others that are newer, more mindless entertainment since I'm not some snob who will turn their nose up at something that doesn't have any deep lessons or absolute masterclass writing. Bring on the Marvel flicks, the Fasts and the Furiouses, and the explosion-fests (as long as they're not overused to Michael Bay levels).

EDIT: Oh, and I'd definitely recommend Joker (2019).

Al Pacino's "Scarface" right? I don't think I've seen that one yet. I saw an early "Hollywood code" film on Scarface though.

I can't remember if I've seen the Ocean's movies. I haven't seen Ocean's Eight either. :)

I haven't seen Taxi Driver. :)

Seen Baby Driver more times than necessary. I loved every minute of it. :D

Never heard of "Hard Boiled" or "The Killer." :)

Seen the John Wick's trilogy. Great work, love the setting and backstory. :D

Seen The Godfather, Part 1 for a class. I haven't seen Part 2 and 3. Part 2 was showing in cinemas for Big Screen Classics, but it's a lengthy one. :)

And of course, I've seen Joker. Great film. :D

It supposedly has a really ugly, grungy portrayal of New York which inspired the worse-than-usual version of Gotham from Joker.

They're both films by John Woo. They're supposed to be really stylish and action packed.

Another couple of films I'd recommend are Cobra (pure 80s action movie starring Stallone) and the original 1976 version of Assault On Precinct 13.

I wonder if there'll ever be a fourth Godfather. The director of them recently stated his disdain for superhero movies, calling them something like carnival rides. Well, why not make a new film and remind us easily-distracted monkeys what a real film is, Mr. Coppola?

There is a place for amusement and thrilling drama in cinema. Cinema is meant to be an escape from the world, so it shouldn't be judged on whether it's thought-provoking or not.

Now if it fails on an entertainment level, you might have a problem. :)

They do, but amusement park rides obviously aren't going to be some deep, meaningful experience. Just a brief yet exciting distraction that you probably won't be thinking about a week from now. Similarity, something with complex, well thought out writing would probably stick with you more than the events of Captain America 5.

I think Coppola mistakes MCU and other superhero stuff for Michael Bay movies. Bay didn't make Transformers or TMNT into anything more than CG FX paloozas. which is why Bumblebee did so much better cuz it wasn't Bay.

Bumblebee was a fantastic movie for a Transformers plot. Hopefully, the sequel does the same. :)
