I think that certain other consoles had a few games better than excellent, i.e. amazing, but in smaller numbers, if you see what I mean. The sheer number of excellent games on the 360. Let's see what some of the really impressive stuff was. Of course, some of these are multi-platform, and some are exclusives (or were). There's a mix.

SNES and PS2 will always be best for overall libraries for their time.

I would put the libraries of the PS2 and Xbox 360 as the top tier. Other consoles aren't too far behind.

It *wasn't* great.

GeOW was quite good, yes, but it was far from great. The graphics, although superb for textures, were completely uncreative, really dull, and almost totally colourless. The gameplay was NOTHING new. You just ran around shooting people (well, aliens) from a third-person-perspective. The weapons were hopelessly uninspired. Co-op gameplay, although not common, had been done before. The high levels of violence was clearly designed to appeal to teenagers, especially Western teenagers. How can anyone say it was a great game? I still remember GameSpot giving it a 9.6 / 10, although I don't know why. Just about the only fun thing was the challenge, when you kicked things up to Hardcore or Insane Difficulty.

Never understood people obsessed with this game. I can't really comment on the later games, which looked slightly more fun, but...come on. 360 owners were just starved for good content, early on. Halo 3 wasn't out yet, nor was MW1, and various other stuff.
