So I loved the Zero Escape series when I first played them (I remember having my first video game-related all-nighter with Zero Time Dilemma lol) and I specifically remember loving VLR the most out of all of them.

Well Im relayed 999 (the remaster) and it was so great. But now Im replaying VLR and its... such a drag.

So much of the game is stupid lets search everywhere for missing Quark or stupid, pointless wandering through dozens of screens and that stupid map animation with the annoying bleeping sound effects

And the characters! Aside from Luna, theyre all AWFUL and ugh I didnt think I could hate video game characters as much as these. And why do some characters get an ending where they escape but in the one where Sigma gets 9 points he gets stopped? Lol so stupid.

And because of the game mechanics, there are so many endings and therefore so much of the game is repetitive. Omg Im seeing the bloody corpse of Alice again! Who cares??

And whats the point of the safe passwords? Why do I need to memorize/take a photo with my phone not just one but TWO passwords (going for Platinum here) for every puzzle room? Why cant, oh I dunno, solving all the puzzles automatically unlock the door/give you the secret file? Why do I need to input these passwords each time?

Okay Ill stop. Ill finish it just for the wild ??? ending.

Very much disagree. ZTD is by far the worst in the series and it's mere existence brings VLR down.
999 is the best in the series by virtue of mostly being a standalone tittle.

999 and VLR are fantastic. I played them this January for the first time ever and loved them. I havent played ZTD though because I heard that it sucks

I agree that 999 is the best and holds up great when replaying it

But I loved ZTD for all the memes that came from the MINDHACK plot twist. I mean come on, that was such an experience lol

I agree that VLR wasnt that good. I fucking hated that rabbit, Quark, hell most of the characters. 999 was a million times better imo.

I thought it was good when I first played it but there were waaaay too many repeated scenes. Like most of the alternate routes were very similar to other ones with 90% of the same dialogue, it felt so padded. I don't think I could ever replay it and put up with that again. It doesn't help that ZTD makes it retroactively worse. 999 is the best of the bunch in retrospect.

VLR is good but yeah the pacing could be much better than it is

I loved them all. 999 could be tedious at times, but i did enjoy the experience and it laid the groundwork for the others to be as weird as they wanted to be.

VLR seemed to be trying a little too hard to outdo 999, but i liked the way it came together, even if it was a bit convoluted by the end.

ZTD really pissed me off at first, but after a certain point i was really glad i stuck with it. IMO it was worth the annoyance of not being able to make sense of the story fragments from the start.

A lot of scenes are going to be replayed to the point of monotony. Especially if you're going for everything.

To be fair, i played the Nonary Games version of the first two games, so i was able to skip through the repeated scenes right up until something new was happening.

It must have been a real pain having to replay them all in their entirety.
