Trump gets impeached and removed from office, in a political move the new President Mike Pence denounces Trump and Trump era politics and calls for a return to normalcy. Unlike Gerald Ford he DOESN'T pardon the president's crimes, but he continues the basic policies of the Trump administration, the economy stays strong (or rebounds because it would probably drop after impeachment), and Mike Pence wins reelection in 2020.

Is this scenario likely assuming Pence denounces Trump?

The dude lost his area last night to liberals, the first time in like 40 years. When Trump gets tossed out, Pence will be there with him.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Pence denouncing Trump years from now. Sure, his values are backwards, but he sticks to them, and I'll bet he bites his tongue a whole lot because Trump is the right wing face right now.

Pence would never be capable of winning an election at the federal level

He wasn't even capable of winning at the state level anymore.

When was the last time you heard from Mike Pence? I think he's staying quiet now waiting for something to happen.

Ehhh... I mean if Trump and Pence both went at the same time and Paul Ryan was still the Speaker and became President, he was known for being antagonistic to Trump so he'd have a shot... but Pence being his VP and even if not in on some underhanded dealings that get him impeached being along for the ride the entire time, the American people probably wouldn't trust a sudden denouncement.

I wouldn't go that far. At the time I thought he would probably lose, but with how the governor election turned out, it's more likely Pence would have won again.

Anyway, Trump's slurpers are not going to migrate to Pence. The party is going to fall apart once Trump is out.

I guess it's not impossible, but I don't think it's likely.

The heck of it is, Pence could theoretically still serve two full terms after finishing Trump's, since Trump has served more than half his term already (and, therefore, Pence would be finishing out less than half of Trump's term; otherwise he'd only be allowed to serve one term after Trump's). Of course, he'd need to actually win two elections to do that, but still.

Assuming that happens, he'd be even worse. He's as intolerant and corrupt as Trump, but not stupid.
