We're all doing the same tasks this wk so our boss can actually track who is working fast slow by measuring us against each other. I've mentioned here im only doing work 50% of the time...and I havent changed that and my coworkers still think I'm working too fast....

As someone who primarily works on deadlines I've learned to throttle myself a bit because if I set the bar too high then it becomes a constant grind of trying to meet high expectations. So a job that I could potentially turn around in a day becomes a 2 or 3 day job, because I'm not trying to burn myself out before retirement.

I get that. But I'm coming from working in consulting where it was a throttle yourself environment. You were expected to work 80% of the time (holidays, vacations, training and admin were the other 20%). I'm already down to 50% (I could work up to 60ish% and still be comfortable). I slowed myself down to 50%....and it's still too fast? I'm not an overachiever (by my standards), but this job is p easy for me, I just want to get things done first so I dont have to worry about them any more

And that's why I don't think I can leave consulting. It looks like it would do my head in to move ... slowly.

At my place, if you just blow through your work, you can expect management to give you some of the slower people's work to "help with". I don't work so fast anymore

I'm only using 10% of power and I'm already faster and stronger than the rest. Imagine if I used 100% of my strength. Yeah okay Freiza.

They want you to slow down? But wouldn't that be kind of go against the fast part in "Fast Food"?

I like less work, more time to listen to podcasts, post on CE etc. Comes with massive raise, better benefits and retirement plan too. Also part of union so cant be fired or laid off.

that's the critical thing. laid off isn't as bad. it's more of a honorable discharge when it comes to the working folk (you get unemployment benefits but sucks since you gotta find a job again).

That's a thing with some jobs, you work more and more than others then it becomes expected of you to do it daily or raises others productivity. That's why its better to work a little slower.

thats always the case when you jump to commercial or government. but I enjoy the challenges in consulting and always being on my toes- that and the remuneration gets significantly better compared to the junior levels.
