Did you enjoy this contest? - Results (6 votes)
I loved it! It's been too long since we had a straight B8 character battle, and the results were to my taste.

Yes, but I was hoping the home stretch would be a bit less predictable.

Yes, but I wish my favorites had fared better.

I liked it, but I would have rather you used nominations to seed the bracket, instead of a pre-determined list.

The contest itself was fun, but I wasn't a fan of your sloppy hosting.

I have no real opinion about it one way or the other; it just existed for me.

The premise was good, but you let it down with your hosting.

The premise just wasn't very interesting to me; I would have preferred you host some other contest.

I hated it, so don't waste your time with any sort of follow-up.

Miles Edgeworth, by a 22-18 margin over Phoenix Wright! The top four Ace Attorney characters all looked incredible this whole contest, so it's not all that surprising to see these two as the finalists. The result of their match, however, is somewhat unexpected: Phoenix gave it all he had, but even with a late surge, he couldn't force a proper turnabout. That should make the (LOL) X-Stats very interesting; expect to see those a bit later.

Congratulations to @ben10kenobi, who won predictions by a margin of nearly 100 points. Your bracket simply proved the most solid overall, up to and including calling the winner, though swirldude would have barely won the prediction contest if Phoenix had triumphed in the finals.

For posterity, here's the full bracket: https://challonge.com/B8VGC

And the previous discussion topic: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/78019344

I owe an apology to @MZero11 for signing you on as an unnecessary co-host, and thus preventing you from voting in any matches. As you surely guessed by now, the vacation I was supposed to be taking last month didn't happen, and won't until at least Spring 2020. Thank you for being there anyways; I very much appreciate your vote of confidence in me and willingness to discuss specific details pre-contest.

An additional thank you is in order to @ZenOfThunder, both for letting me use your pictures and even making Kazuma and Spyro images just for this contest, as well as being someone who I feel privileged to be able to call a friend here, even though we don't talk that often. I promise I'll put up that top 5 topic soon!

Last but not least, thank you to all of you who took the time out of your day to vote in most or all of this contest's matches, and those of you who posted in the results and discussion topic. I was hoping it would be a bit more active, but I suppose I'm not good at fostering that activity myself.

I'll be frank: I was disappointed with this contest's turnout. For such a broad-ranging format that used to hold so much sway here, I was hoping for more than seeing a typical match struggle to hit 20 votes, and it's hard to call these results truly representative when half or more of active B8ers aren't even voting in most matches. Based on what I've seen, I have no intention to host another contest of its ilk in the future.

So where will I go from here, you might wonder?

I'll be co-hosting the Board 8's Best Original Character contest, which should start soon. Even if you don't have or wish to create an original character to enter (here: (https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/78048724), I encourage you to vote in the matches.

After that will be the holiday season, and then 2020. I might finally get around to hosting that Best Story in Gaming contest then, if GotD doesn't get announced at least.

Well, that's about all I have to say. Please sound off with anything you have to say about this post or this contest in general!

I stopped caring after a while because it became predictable and I felt like many of my favorites weren't amounting to anything (though many of them never got into the bracket in the first place). Best moment was easily Hat Kid upsetting Rikku, for me anyway.

Given the way this format turned out, I do think my change in format for B8BOC will work a lot better, and I'm intrigued to see if advertising this will drum up any further interest. If you guys want to nominate, you still can. Hope to start matches Thursday or Friday :)

I liked the part where Donkey Kong went on an upset run. He's a good boy, should do that more.

Honestly the starting rounds were pretty exciting with some interesting trends - Yakuza up, Persona down, Mario down, Ace Attorney up, all of that - before kind of just evening out by the end. Not much ado about that, but I always enjoyed tuning in.

Oh hey I won.

Fun contest despite the low turnout on most days. It definitely had enough surprises aside from the expected ace attorney domination to keep me interested.

The highlight of the contest for me was probably Sonic > Samus - I always thought of this board as a stronghold for Samus so seeing him win convincingly was nice - especially since public opinion of him has only weakened in recent years. Also really happy with Missile's performance - him keeping it respectable vs phoenix (on b8!) was pretty great!

Finally, thanks to Metalmind and MZero for hosting the contest, and Zen for the great pics as always!

I wish I could have voted, but Tidus and Joker both ran into unwinnable matches so I'm not too devasted about it
