I really liked it growing up, but have found less time for it in recent years; I basically only watch the Stanley Cup, if that.

Who is good and what should I know about the NHL in 2019-20?

I'm about to begin my annual hunt for Rangers games on local radio.
For some reason No one carries them. Which is really annoying.

Leafs are fun but won't do damage when it matters.

Bruins and Tampa will always find a way to choke.

Penguins, Hawks, and Kings are all long past their primes.

St. Louis and Washington already sold their souls for their Cups, they're done.

Ottawa is fucked.

Edmonton can fuck itself.

Vegas and Colorado are fun.

Truth be told, if you don't have any real allegiances, just casually the league and then jump on the Seattle fanbase when they start playing in a year or two.

I'll be happy to help you out along the way, right now is a real good time to get back into the sport. Scoring is at high, the new wave of players are all about speed and skill. It's more entertaining and the games have a much better pace. The NHL is in a good spot right now, and this season so far has been awesome. Last year's playoffs may have been the best i've witnessed as a fan, and my team didn't even make playoffs.

I was always a Ducks fan because of the movies. But living on Eastern Time makes it hard for me to follow them.

Pens are on the tail end of their prime, not 'long past their prime'.

Ducks may be on their way back to relevance, they have the best goaltender in the league imo (probably an unpopular opinion) and they are winning games again. I don't know how long ago you watched, but Getzlaf is still on the team and seemingly still able to score. Corey Perry departed for Dallas during the offseason.

Carolina is a good up and coming team right now that not a lot of people seem to be jumping on and they are on the East coast. They might be a decent option for a fast, young team to start watching.

Don't project the troubles of the Blackhawks onto the Pens. They are very much a Cup contender this year.

TC should start up as a Canes or Sabres fan, though. Get in on the ground floor of something that might be great or might be crushingly disappointing. That should get the fan juices flowing.
