I'm supposed to be jealous of California when I live in Hawaii?

lol, as bad as certain aspects are here, Cali is twice as worse in practically all regards.

Hawaii is a cesspool. If you're not in hospitality, emergency services or in the restaurant industry there is nothing. Also, the majority of natives can't read. In addition, you have astronomically high rates of addictions. Your state is nothing more the a 5 day get away.

I don't like celebrity worship culture, i don't like Lakers fans, and i don't like the sense of Californian exceptionalism - especially regarding food. A Californian would probably try and tell me they have better middle eastern food than Dearborn - even though it has one of the biggest Muslim populations in the US; they'll also say they have better ice cream than the midwest - when tons of flavors originated here, or they'll say they have better Mexican than Mexico, Japanese than Japan, etc. It's just ridiculous.

Otherwise i probably agree with a ton of their politics and wouldn't dislike them

the food is simply better in california. everything is competition, and that competition begets better food.

ice cream may have originated in the midwest, but now there hundreds of thousands of ice cream shops in cali. and they all compete to get customers. and the customers go to the the one that tastes the best

also all the produce in the country is grown there, for the most part.

celebrity worship culture has nothing to do with California. i have literally never met anyone who cares about celebrities. did you get that vibe from television shows?

You proved my post.
You're delusional if you think ice cream is better in California than the midwest

Rofl

i've had better deep dish pizza in cali than i do now while living in chicago

the only way you could measure it is personal experience. i highly doubt you've tasted the better ice cream shops in cali.

but fine, take your ice cream win LOL

I live in California and why do Californians on this site act like cultists as though there is no valid criticism of the state?

Conveniently, this question is also an answer to the topic question.

It's funny because that's what people just say about Americans period. Pot kettle black.

and this factor has absolutely nothing to do with california itself

Said literally no one ever. LMAO what a bad argument. You're kind of reinforcing my point yourself. Reading your posts makes me want to hate your state even more.

what? literally every european/canadian friend i have hates how much americans think so highly of themselves

The U.S. is literally the most self hating country on the planet, what are you even talking about?

It's just an absurd stance to immediately think CA is better than places known for whatever.
I've literally heard people say Mexican is better in CA than Mexico. Also Japanese food. I also have heard the example about Middle Eastern food.
How is that not insulting and arrogant?

mexican food in cali isn't even like mexican food in mexico except in northern mexico near the borders. burritos arent even a part of mexican food. that shit started in texas

when people describe mexican food in cali they are mostly talking about southern cali especially LA and SD becasue there is literally a mexican restaurant/truck on every single block. this factor has produced extremely cheap and tasty as fuck AMERICAN mexican food

japanese food in america is also nothing like japanese food in japan. funny note: when i moved to the east coast people actually eat hteir sushi with chopsticks, which is entirely amusing because even the japanese dont do that

People from Cali always want to tell everyone how much better California, despite not living there anymore.

In my personal experience people from California are exceptionally stupid, even dumber than folks from the South.

Californians are by far the most educated citizens in the country

not sure what your metric is for intelligence

Being educated still doesn't mean that one can still be dumb about things or general living.

'being dumb about things and general living'

seems like a very subjective measure of intelligence lol

Common sense.

is also a subjective measure of intelligence and doesn't really mean anything

The UC schools admin would love to disagree, seeing how conventional measures of intelligence (SAT/ACT, college graduation, etc) are downplayed because certain races don't measure up as well as others, and the use of non-conventional intelligence (e.g. "Street-smarts", ethnic viewpoints that aren't in line with western science, etc) to help "disadvantaged" applicants in the admission process.

it's funny because better social skills (which i would associate with "Street smarts") actually dramatically correlate with increased IQ.

to be honest you just sound like you have different viewpoints with the image of california that you have in your head. probably adsorbed from television

i assume you think every person in cali is liberal. you need to get out more

This was almost a good topic before the TC gave that terrible First post.

Short answer, politicization

California is seen as a hub of liberal activity, and thus often times gets brought up when bad things happen there, as a indication of the ineffectiveness of liberal policies.

The same things happens to Midwestern states, I believe people refer to them as fly-over-states.

When I was (10) I heard that everything was politicized, but it's crazy to see how sex, video games, natural disasters, and espionage are now fair game.

i think this plays a large part of it
