Some of the people directly involved in the assassination were arrested and mysteriously died, yeah. I believe it was eventually blamed on rogue Saudi politicians.

Meh, he went to the Middle East. The likelihood of abduction increases by virtue of being within such territory (not much different from someone visiting Somalia and suddenly getting held hostage for ransom by a terrorist group)

Would he have been abducted had he stayed in the U.S.? Well, it probably would have been much harder for it to happen.

Who should have done something about it though? Khashoggi was a citizen of Saudi Arabia. How frequently does the world get involved with a country killing one of its own citizens?

It's definitely a bad thing, but it's not that surprising that nothing happened.

In terms of danger, a notch down from Saudi Arabia itself; considering the presence of the host nation's police force outside of the consulate, as opposed to being purely KSA territory (and therefore simply rolling up in a van to kidnap someone is more readily possible).

And compared to other places in Turkey, the Saudi Consulate is ideal if Saudi Arabia wanted to kill a dissentient, since Turkish police can't normally barge into it without prior permission.

Not start yet another war, for one. There are better ways to fight Saudi Arabia. You have to target their money, their power. Start turning away from oil, stop dealing with them, pressure your allies to do the same. Cut them off.

On what are you basing that assessment? Have other people been harassed/killed/abducted at this particular consulate?

I ask because your initial statement was "He shouldn't have gone to a place known for danger", which so far seems unsupported.

The fact that Khashoggi went into self-imposed exile for fear of being abducted by Saudi agents for his vocal criticisms of the Prince? Or how he gave his fiance two mobile phones with a number to a high-level advisor to the Turkish President, telling her to call if he didn't come out, just before entering the consulate on the day of his death?
Or how, upon entering the consulate and told that he was being extradited to Saudi Arabia because of an "Interpol warrant", he immediately realized he was ******.

If nobody knows, then why do you assume the answer is "yes"? We have so far heard of one - there's a difference between the Saudi Consulate and say.. Iranian.

While he exercised caution, do you seriously believe he thought he was in mortal danger going into the consulate (the reason you feel he brought this upon himself)?
