Playing on Core Rules difficulty. No tips, please.

I've been stuck on the final boss fight for a few months now. Normally after one or two attempts of getting my party blown up real quick, I feel overwhelmed and find something else to play. I was finally able to lure out just one of the mages (Semaj) and do a quick save after taking him down without receiving much damage. After that quick save, Angelo almost always blows my whole party up with his fire spells, although I have managed to take him out a few times.

On other attempts, I have gotten Sarevok down to one notch left on his health bar, but I haven't been able to take him out yet. If I can lure one out individually, I might stand a chance, but that rarely seems to work in my favor.

I really want to play Baldur's Gate 2, because I've heard it is immensely superior to 1, but I have to beat this damn boss first. Grrrrr.

What kind of character did you roll and what party members did you recruit?

I'm a female dual-wielding fighter/mage elf, proficient in Scimitar/Wakizashi/Ninjato.

Party members are:
Imoen
Yeslick
Branwen
Xan
Kivan

I have Imoen and Kivan spread out to the sides of the arena, shooting fire arrows at the people Iure out.

I am luring people out now with creatures that Xan has summoned.

Yeslick is my front sword/shield guy.

Myself and Branwen feel pretty useless in this fight. But I'm too close to beating the game to go out and try to switch party members.

I buffed up my party before the battle with haste, protect from evil and whatnot.

Well, seeing as you don't want tips... good luck, keep at it. Try different strategies I guess? What sort of spells you preparing/using?

Your question about spells brings up a good point. Xan's sleep/fear/slow/etc. spells seem to be having no effect on these bosses. I might swap him and Branwen out for Minsc and Dynaheir. Some physical spells would probably do me some good in this fight.

It's been a long time since I ditched those two. I hope they're both still alive. Otherwise that could put a damper on my plans.

I did it!

It may be a while before I start up Baldurs Gate II. Got some other stuff on my backlog. I need to lay off the PC gaming for a while, because I feel like it is the worst when it comes to zomping my productivity IRL. I still have to finish beating Half Life 1s final boss, though, before my PC games backlog is complete. (I hard moded that game, so I dont even know if Im damaging the boss or not).

Well done! What strategy did you use in the end?

I was able to lure out Angelo, kill him, heal and quick save. However he had de-hasted my gang, so when Seravok came out he was more than a match for my party.

The strategy that ended up working for him was I any time a characters health dropped below three notches on the health bar, I would have them get away from the battle and use potions while the other guys kept fighting.

It felt kind of like I cheesed my way through this battle, but the more I think about it, I think RPGs are made to be cheesed. Since results are always technically determined by dice rolling, The goal of the game is to figure out what works and how to optimize your chances of success. So I guess theres no way to actually cheat unless you lower the difficulty or use a mod that makes you OP or lets you break the rules.

You should see some of the bullshit I've done to otherwise-legit bosses in BGII.

Unless you're doing super cheese like using scrolls of immunity to undead to take on liches, then it's largely whatever!

Is that worse than improved invisibility and whacking one with a metal coated Mace of Disruption?

I forget what they do in standard BG2 as I've used SS for so long. Don't they just cast True Sight if you try to invis?

Not that using the mace isn't super cheesy still, but at least they can fight back then no?

Liches do, which can be dealt with with Spell Immunity: Divination.

Demiliches only have machine-gun Imprisonment.

I don't honestly remember, not actually done a playthrough for along time now. I never used either though as both too cheesy and may as well just use immunity to undead at that point.

They definitely made some great games. However Im eager and optimistic to see what Larian can do with the 3rd one.

Still irks me they are leaching off the name of the OG series, when it isn't to do with them.
