I had never seen AHS before, but I got pulled in by the commercials and tried this season. As the end draws near, I'm absolutely loving it.

It's gotten close to going off the rails a few times, but it's done an awesome job of balancing campy 80s slashers with some genuinely good writing and backstories.

Also, tonight's episode was just incredible from start to finish. Especially Brooke getting revenge on the hitchhiker and cutting his thumbs off.

I haven't seen a ton of discussion for it outside of Reddit, but it's really fun thus far.

Yeah i'm watching it and enjoy it. I liked the first couple seasons and then fell off until this one. The Coven one or whatever was terrible and made me not want to watch anymore, the theme of this one was intriguing enough for me to check out though.

Depends on what you mean.

I don't think that any of the major characters are gay. One did gay porn, but regrets it, while another was called a "fake boy" before being murdered which people think was meant to imply that he was gay.

There's a possibly gay minor character, a gay porn producer who ogles some showering men, though possibly just for business reasons, before being stabbed through the head, and then one other minor character who is really flamboyant but doesn't have anything defined about him yet.

There are also a few very brief male ass shots.

All things considered, not really, maybe a minute or two of gay-themed content in total across the entire season. I'm all for more gay characters & ass shots, though.

Coven is for sure the worst season, but I'd recommend checking out the other ones.

Except Apocalypse which is almost as big of a litter box fire as Coven is.

I just finished the episode. very good.

you should watch the original season. it's universally liked. every other season is a mixed bag and has haters and lovers. but the first one is pretty much agreed to be good

cult is the best one imo but all are at least decent

Season 2 too.

I may go back and watch some of them, yeah. I've heard mixed things about some, but yeah, seems like the first few seasons are pretty well-liked.

I haven't seen any of the previous seasons, and I haven't missed anything in this one. It's all self-contained.

They're all unrelated, but you should watch seasons 1 and 3 before season 8, as it's a continuation of 1 and 3 (mostly 3). 3 doesn't require you to have seen 1 though. Also a character from 3 appears briefly in 5 and her storyline continues from there in 8, but it isn't really crucial to follow all of that, and a character from 2 is in 4 as well (4 takes place before 2) but that isn't crucial either.

The thing to know most when watching multiple seasons is that they mostly have the same actors, and when there is any crossover, you will see the same people playing multiple characters >_>

I liked Coven. Not my favourite but definitely not the worst.

In my opinion, seasons 1-5 range from ok to great. Season 6 onwards have been mostly garbage with the odd decent episode or scene.

1 was the best season.

2 was also great except for all the shit about aliens that was pointless and went absolutely nowhere.

3 was alright, the story wasnt great but I liked the setting and the characters. Probably the season with the most wasted potential.

4 is the second best. The episode with Peppers story is one of the best episodes of the entire show.

5 had a great atmosphere and soundtrack. Wasnt a massive fan of the actual story or the plot twist, but it was a fun enough season, definitely style over substance though.

6 was the worst season by far. The parody horror show lasted way too long. It explains the bad acting and gets slightly better when it turns into the reality show. Its just a bit of a slog to get through with very little payoff. There are some funny scenes though between the actors and the real life people.

7 was a weird one. There was some humour, but the characters were all unlikable. I didnt really buy most peoples motive for joining the cult in the first place, especially the main womans wife.

8 was hit and miss. The murder house episode was nice. The pacing of the season was off though and everything was resolved way too easily.

9 is fun so far. Im a few episodes behind. Its not amazing but I like the 80s feel to it. The reveal of the true killer wasnt a surprise though.

Yeah I hated coven. It had some good elements. Kathy Bates did an amazing job. The minotaur character was cool, but so much of the season was just dumb and the dialogue was cringey from start to finish plus too much "oh no someone died but that's cool let's just bring them back."

There wasn't a single witch character that was likeable... but one thing Apocalypse did right with the revival of that storyline was Billie Lourd's character secretly being the new alpha witch and not knowing it. I really liked her in Scream Queens so I was glad to see her bumped over to AHS when that got cancelled. The fact that she and David kinda obsoleted the other witches made the season okay in spite of continuing a shitty plot imo.
