"Power companies are ditching coal in favor of cleaner alternatives at a rapid pace. US power plants are expected to consume less coal next year than at any point since President Jimmy Carter was in the White House, according to government forecasts released earlier this month."

The market is doing its thing! To reiterate from last night's conversation, the market could also improve healthcare if we actually let it do so by forcing hospitals to publish their cash and Medicare prices in public portals.

You know, if Darkman was still here you would have had your rediculous ass backwards views and misinformation corrected. He always had to correct you on economics and investing,.

Why do you think he came back with a vengeance conspicuously after Darkman left?

Honestly, cool.

But if traditional energy is going to fail (and I want it to), we need to make sure the renewable energy resources that are going to replace it can handle the workload.

In August 2017, Robert Murray, a forceful Trump supporter, wrote a letter to the Trump administration urgently requesting an emergency order to protect coal-fired power plants from being closed. In the letter, he warned the White House that failure to issue the order would spark the immediate bankruptcies of his company and a major customer.

"Our time is running out. Please fight for us," the executive wrote in the letter.

However, the Trump administration rejected that cry for help because officials determined there wasn't enough evidence to warrant the use of emergency authority.

They will be able to handle the load. They're being installed at breakneck speed. Even the most optimistic person 5 years ago couldn't have predicted the fast rate of adoption.

You'd make billions but no one wants to invest R&D into that so instead they'll just keep the status quo, suppress alternative fuel sources, and then go out of business and blame everyone else.

Coal mining is going into obsolescence as the market deemed it so. This implies that renewable energy is cheaper, more efficient and can at least handle the same load as coal mining.

Thing is I don't know how accessible renewable energy is to large metropolitan areas.

I know where I live we still rely on traditional energy resources. No effort has been made to wean or transition to something different that is better so it leaves me to wonder what about the rest of the country.

You'd be surprised how far solar panels can go even in the cloudier parts of the country. It will be more of a challenge to install the batteries needed to power everything at night when there is no sunshine, but it is doable.

Wind/nuclear are good too. Nuclear isn't renewable but it helps get us there.

Yeah so did a variety of workers unions. We should let the market do its thing, not elect leaders who want to run things from the top down. And we shouldn't be so susceptible to workers unions that prefer jobs over progress.

Oh. I take it you live in an apartment complex then as I was going to ask if you personally attempted to switch to renewable energies. For me, I live in the perfect spot to install solar panels and I am considering looking into installing them for my parents' home sometime next year.

You can do that but it's a self-driving initiative. Changing the power grid won't be a grassroots thing, it's something that needs a concerted, sweeping effort.
