Most disappointing sequel?

Vesperia came out the same year (3 months earlier)

Ugh. That game was the very definition of mediocre, and it took far too long for Emil to not suck(and even the he wasn't great).

Always wanted to try it out. I remember playing the original ToS on the gamecube right at release and it's always been a favorite.

It's a whole different mood. The first one feels all hokey and rickety from listening to it too much, it loops so fast and I got so sick of it. Dawn of the New World's gentle remix sounds fantastic - it's a welcome reinterpretation.

It was the inverse of FFX-2. X was a dark game with a lot of death, zealotry and terrorism, while X-2 had a decidedly brighter tone. ToS wasn't the lightest game, but it looked on the bright side and espoused stuff like the power of friendship and denying fate to decide one's own destiny. DotNW was like an edgy late 90's - late 00's anime with this whole new lore aspect, the superpowered evil side of the protag and the general anime trappings that came with Emil and Marta's relationship.

Not sure if they fixed any of this in the PS3 port, but they really fucked up how they handled the non-Emil and non-Marta party members. It was pretty damn annoying how you couldn't just lead the party with one of the original party members and had to manually switch to that character in the middle of combat. Also, the fact that you couldn't play as monsters really crippled you if you wanted to play through the game in four player mode, where in the original you spent the vast majority of the game with enough people in your party to do so.

And let's not forget that the original cast's equipment is fixed and that the game has no proper world map.

Sounds about right. The world map thing would be a pretty big undertaking and arguably the playable monsters thing would be. But godfuck, the game would be exponentially better is they treated the original cast like normal characters.

How was Lloyd not a god in the DotNW?

Lloyd solod Angel Kratos, got the Eternal Sword, and awakened his cruxis crystal post game, yet all that power is non existent in the sequel.
