I'm sure some would say it turned out that way, but earlier on in the story the author routinely shits on tumblr.

Anyway, he should have done Problem Sleuth 2 instead. Problem Sleuth was far superior to Homestuck.

Imagine if you took every stereotypical internet shitposter, gave them each a unique mental illness, and then created a literal troll character to represent it, and then took that cast of characters and had them harass (and then team up with) a bunch of similar stereotypes but for tumblr posters.

Now add stable time loops, birthing universes from frogs, magic powers gained from being literally murdered, MMO-style interfaces appearing in the real world, and a chat client that can bridge both time and space.

That's Homestuck in a nutshell.

That's Homestuck in a nutshell.

It's one giant hyper-meta shitpost, basically. The only SJW thing is that there are some gay characters, and a trans-character in the epilogue (A little jarring, tbh), and one of the character reflects on his heavy use of "gay" jokes when he was younger as a reflection of his own insecurities (Fairly tastefully, in my opinion). It is extremely LONG and has lots of PECULARITIES, PROBLEMS, and FUNNY JOKES.

Homestuck 2 is outlined by Andrew "E-Boy" Hussie but written by the team at WhatPumpkin, which is a game/media studio.

Don't read the Homestuck 2 posts without reading Homestuck 1 then the Epilogues first because they are not really indicactive of most of the writing of the original series, for... important reasons?

I'll give Hussie this: it's maybe the single best example of using stable time loops that doesn't cause constant contradictions or paradoxes. He manages time travel and interactions between different timelines masterfully.

Oh, but what a terrible price to pay to see it, though....

That was designed to make fun them actually. But of course shippers and fanfic writers embraced that. And I guess Hussie did too eventually.

I think one of my favorite things about Homestuck was how two backers for the kickstarter that eventually became Hiveswap paid 10k each for their OC trolls to appear in the comic. And then they were killed off after appearing on a single page.

Hussie could just rename the series "Over their heads" and people still wouldn't get it, but like you said... once his fanbase became made almost entirely of the people he was making fun of I think he had no choice but to embrace it.

To be honest, I usually feel that Hussie does things for two reasons:

1. It's funny to him.
2. It demonstrates some weird, post-modern narrative concept.
