In the Spanish language there is a verb "hacer", which means... Well... It's hard to describe. In some cases, it means "do", in other cases it means "make" but it's also what you do to a suitcase when you're putting stuff in it. It means a whole lot of oddly specific things:

"Hace calor" = "It's hot"
"Hace [I can't believe GameFAQs won't let me post this word]" = "It's getting late"
"Hacer una pregunta" = "Ask a question"

We have some words like this in English too, where they have oddly specific meanings other than their traditional meanings. "Take" is one of them, but there are others too.

Take a dump
Give a damn
Throw a party
Pitch a tent
Blow your mind
Sucks at tennis

Cuz you're not literally saying you're taking a piece of shit with you.
You're saying you're taking the event of a "dump".

In other words, a bath is an occasion. So when you take a bath, you don't literally take the bathwater with you. But you do take that action. Similarly, you're taking action by defecating.
