Now. It looks like the "remake" is only a remake in that they kept Final Fantasy 7 in the title. The games are going to be two completely different experiences.

Also FF8 is a great game. If you like it, the junction system isn't much different than materia system.

I disagree with most cause I dunno why you'd want to reply the same plot points so close together. I say wait.

I can't imagine having not played FF 7, even I've played it and I didn't do video games back then.

I'd say play it now, it's not too bad a jrpg if you can get past ugly pre-rendered graphics and slowness of ps1 era rpg battles along with terrible translation (sometimes in a good way, sometimes not). There's a fun game there especially with the materia system.

FF 8 is not like 7 at all. It's basically a card game wrapped around a jrpg sidestory. The junction system is intolerable without knowing triple triad, but if you do excel at triple triad then even the level scaling of the game won't bother you because you'll never need to level again because you'll have encounter-none ability the entire game like me.

1. Play the original at low price.
2. Wait for remake price drop.

This allows you to enjoy both experiences at a low cost. And the time between each game will allow you to soak it in.

Just play it now. It is a pretty short game and a game that deserves to be played in its original form. It will probably help you appreciate the remake more too, or make you hate the remake more. Who knows.

i have the switch version of FF7 & recommend it. there are some neat features you can toggle with a press of a button that help with the dated feel of the game, namely the ability to play at 3x speed, turn off random encounters, and fully heal your team/restore limit breaks whenever you want (in or out of combat).

so what's cool is that you can play the game just like in the 90s without toggling any of these features, you can play it on ultra-easy mode if you want to go through the game to see the story & stuff like that without any real resistance or investment, or you can find a happy medium for yourself somewhere in the middle.

I never once played the card came. Didn't in FF9 either, and had no problems finsihing either game with any more or less level of difficulty than FF7. If anything getting the hidden materias in FF7 made it easier of a game than FF8 or FF9. The only thing I didn't accomplish without Hero Drinks (?) through the card game was the Omega Weapon. The optional one in the castle (?). Sorry its been a while since I played it. Lol

And I honestly didn't see much difference in GF's/junctioning/drawing than materia and leveling up. They're different but basically the same and both yield the same end result. Or at least that's how it seems to me.

play it now. like was said, the remake isn't one game. it's gonna be 3 games I think. and if you want to see the end, episode 3 might not be out for many years to come. you can probably beat FF7 original before episode 1 even comes out. and it's gonna be a very different game. you might not even like the remake

Looks like the only substantial difference is everyone running around and doing meaningless 'chip' damage during a fight.

Is not the actual gameplay the experience itself. That the story will follow the original is meaningless. Its how you interact with the game not that the remake is just a pretty rehash of the original. At least to me. Maybe gamers now want interactive movies for games.

I'm definitely hyped for the remake but I don't have a pro so I'm waiting til the PS5 to play it. Just play VII now, OP. You'll probably appreciate the remake more too when you play it.

Games are interactive. If the game's battles and interaction with enemies is completely different than the OG than it's two different experiences, regardless of the story itself.

You're gonna be waiting like another 20 years to play the full remake, at the rate it's being churned out.

Just play the original.

It looks like it's still turn-based, or at least has an option to be, just with that meaningless chip damage going on in the meantime.

Maybe I need to check out some newer videos then. The last one I saw made it look like it plays like DMC and their option for turn based also wasn't ATB. It's more of an action oriented RPG. And that, for me, is the core of old FF games.

I think there's an option to switch to classic turn based, but it's mainly an action combat game now.

Play the original. The remake is going to be who knows how many parts long so it might not all come out for another decade or more, especially considering Squenix's recent record.

The 'remake' that comes out next year is only like the first 5-6 hours of the actual game. I can't imagine why anyone would pay full price for that.
