Not being into counterculture isn't necessarily an insult - it just literally means you're not into counterculture. It's like saying basic with a slightly less negative connotation. You can be into mainstream or popular culture and still be cultured or intelligent. It isn't a gatekeeping term. It has nothing to do with incels. Being into counterculture does not make you a "basement dweller." You can be involved in a counter culture and still enjoy pop culture.
The fact that this has to be explained to CEmen is mind boggling.

Well said. I basically came in here to say that, to me, it's virtually the same thing as "basic," but maybe less negative as you stated. People that just go with the flow of whatever's popular and expected of them by society. Doesn't really take any risks or do anything out of the ordinary.
