Will I like it if I disliked the first game?

I liked the first one but the second felt like it added way too much filler and went on for too long. Stabbing orcs never got old but most of the time I was just running around these big empty maps doing tons of nothing.

I liked the first one, but was sick of it by the end so I didn't even try the sequel.

Didn't help that I heard bad stories about the microtransactions.

Great game. I miss some things about the first game -- like faster combo/executions -- but overall, its fluid gameplay won me over. The DLC with that black ranger dude was pretty damn great, too. I didn't expect much from it, seeing how middling the first Mordor game's DLC was, but playing as a mortal with parachutes and grappling hooks was awesome.

Those have been removed for several years at this point, IIRC.

I'm replaying Shadow of Mordor right now to bring in a new Follower/Nemesis into Shadow of War. I've put so many hours into these games despite them not being very deep. It's just fun to play and encountering all of the different uruks is always entertaining, especially when you get the same one to come back from death a few times.

I didn't play SoW until a year after it came out and by then they removed all of the microtransactions so I never saw it, but I heard bad things. SoW is just a bigger SoM with some quality of life improvements, like faster traversal and one-button interrogations. The only real downside to it being way bigger is that the textures aren't as good as SoM so the uruks generally don't look as cool, though they are more varied.

Well it did take me a second to understand the navigation between maps, but Im moving right along with the story now.

I liked the first one's combat better. It was simpler, "easier," but it was more satisfying to me.

Shadow of War is still pretty good, though. Especially since micro-transactions were paved over by a patch a while ago.

The microtransaction stuff was overblown even when it was in the game. They were never something you needed, and even if you bought them the horrible final act of the game was a grind anyway. But in addition to removing the microtransactions, they also fixed that final act. It's still not very good though unless you really like defensive sieges.

I didn't play it until after they fixed the microtransaction stuff but I don't see why you would need them to begin with. It just felt like another one of those times where people wanted to bitch about microtransactions existing for reasons. The game did not feel like it was centered around loot and, after a certain point, I just wore all of my original gear because a Middle Earth game with random trash loot felt off brand.
