With a game this cinematic I don't feel like I can just pick it up and play it whenever. It's like an investment of sorts.

no he's the worst, like in every way. I forget he's in the game during a play through sometimes.

Nah, you're still wrong. He can be one of your best characters, mechanically, for most of a typical playthrough if you build him right. But it's really easy to build him wrong and make him into a crappy copy of one of the other characters, so I forgive you.

To build him well, you have to take advantage of his starting position and wait on major development with him until you have level 2 key spheres. L1 key spheres get him into the starting areas of the other characters. From the starting areas, L2 key spheres get you into the latter third of neighboring character's areas. This means you can get Kimarhi into the late game part of another character's area before the mid-game and start collecting late game stat boosts and abilities. From there, it's relatively easy to send him from one late game portion of the sphere grid to another, keeping him ahead of the other characters in terms of stats and high-end ability acquisition. My favorite path is to L1 into Rikku's area for early access to Steal and Use, and then L2 into Yuna's area for early Dispel/Curaga/Regen/Holy. But you can also get early -ga spells from Lulu via Wakka, early access to Rikku's or Auron's end areas, etc.

This reminds me that I totally mack on Lulu throughout all my playthroughs.

Sure, Yuna might be the designated love interest, but it's Lulu that gets to handle my balls for Blitz Ace.

Subsequently, I'm also reminded of the myriad of reasons I didn't like FFX-2. Fanservice galore, and they benched my favorite gal, with Paine being a poor consolation prize.

Sphere Grid is awesome. Great mix of specialization and customization.

The Kilika Woods music (I'm playing w/ the arranged OST) is really pretty. Like classic Uematsu dungeon music.

I mean seriously the guy's still grieving losing his brother. Also, his theory on Sin happened to be correct in Tidus's case, fun enough.

the blitzball game fucking sucks. And you've got fucking tons of story left. But it's worth it, i think at least.
