I only find it more enjoyable than the other prequels because of its quick pacing and it keeps the political stuff from being too drawn out. I agree it's stupidly grimdark though.

I think Ewan McGregor fooled a lot of us into thinking ROTS was good because of his awesome performance. Coupled with the fact that its definitely the best of the prequel trilogy, I can see why a lot of people supposedly love it.

The whole problem with this new trilogy is the whole premise of the Empire 2.0 doesn't make any fucking sense at all so the fundamental story is broken, it's like they clogged the toilet and now any time they flush you just see more and more shit and it is overflowing from the shit

Tbh I think if either Abrams or Johnson had their own trilogy it would have been fine. But as storywriters they're basically the opposite so having them within the one trilogy is a weird decision.

But hey maybe Rise of Skywalker will surprise me.

Sure, and the plot leaks for Endgame that I mentioned perfectly summarized the finished film

And the reaction to it was people losing their minds and freaking the hell out.

The point I was making is that 99% of the time any leaks come out for any film or franchise they'll sound bad because through a page of bullet points you don't get really any context for anything.

I read the leaks for both Endgame and ROS, I still think Endgame ended up being pretty meh.
I think ROS looks much better though, so we'll see.

Unless I'm remembering wrong, the original plan was to have a third director for the third movie. The problem was nobody at Kathleen Kennedy's level seemed to care about maintaining a consistent vision between the movies, and by the time episode 8 came out the whole thing was such a dumpster fire that they abandoned plans to have a third director and gave it back to Abrams so they could at least have some degree of consistency.

I'm pretty sure the 3rd director left becuase of creative differences, cant recall the details but I believe the sort version is the director wanted Luke alive at the least for ep9.

And at that point there arent very many high profile directors who would want to tarnish their reputation and career trying and failing to salvage the dumpster fire that is the sequal trilogy.

I think the one plan they did have was for each movie in the trilogy to focus on one old hero. So Han in TFA, Luke in TLJ and Leia in 9. Unfortunately that didn't really work out. So I do think they should have altered the ending of TLJ but I suppose the timing was too late.

Either way the common problem was a lack of top down management and handling the middle movie off to a guy who had "ruin a franchise" on his bucket list

You know that stupid spacing scene where Leia floats back to the ship in terrible CGI and then has a terrible pop in in the next shot?

She spent like an hour and a half in a coma after that and had like 8 min of screen time. You could have just had her die then. That would also make Holdo a slightly less awful character as there would be a reason for her to exist.

I would probably agree they shouldnt do that if she had an actual presence in the movie as a character. But like I said, they literally put her in a coma for half of it, if not more and replace her with another character. I honestly already think what they did to her in it was insulting, regardless of whether she had died or not, but even more so because she did.

I can only assume she was weak and ill during filming and instead of adapting, they hired Laura Dern. But as I recall her death was rather sudden so I dunno if theres any truth to that.

Have the team desperately try to bring Leia back into the ship through a tractor beam, cut away when they do get her, and make it vague on if she survived or not until she shows up later in the movie when she's needed.

And give the excuse that "maybe the Force kept her alive" if Rian wanted to keep the idea that she was Force sensitive in some way, just like her brother.

What I figured they would do, and Abrams still could technically do this, is give her a Gandalf moment and send her off to petition for help. There was that line in episode 8 where they radio for help and nobody responds, which would have been the perfect excuse for her to go off at the end of the episode and be off screen for the last movie.

Which would make her "a member of the Imperial senate on a diplomatic mission to <planet>", bringing her full circle.
