I'd say very good, but that's nothing to sniff at.

I'd lean towards classic overall, in terms of influence, aesthetic, the performances and how iconic it has become.

If you say Taxi Driver is anything but a classic you're just straight up wrong, regardless of your personal thoughts on the film. Being a "classic" has little to nothing to do with personal taste, it's about its overall impact on culture and filmmaking, which Taxi Driver has had an undeniable impact on both.

It's good and undoubtedly a classic. Although I think people really overstate Scorcese's hand in it and understate the strength of Paul Schrader's script, he's the real genius of that collaborative pair.

I really don't know if Sunhawk has the intelligence to comprehend that in an objective way.

I agree. Schrader was almost certainly more important to the film than Scorcese. It was such a great screenplay, it really was. Also, who has the nerve to write a scrip like that? Surprised it even got released in America.

I thought it was just okay, one of those classics that I don't really care for but I can respect it and its influence.

Ha, I own a copy of that. Schrader all over. Very good film, although a bit too bleak (especially all the snow), and the ending was very disappointing. How did you feel about the ending?

I loved the whole thing, ending included, one of my favourite films of recent years.

Classic. Easily.

Especially on this board. There was a topic yesterday where people just accepted that speed is a classic film. Thats not a high bar. Lol.
