A High School Girls Soccer Team were PENALIZED for "excessive celebration" after they removed their jerseys on the field to reveal T-shirts that said #EQUALPAY!!

It happened at Vermont's Burlington High School when they took their tops off in celebration of a goal scored just 3 minutes before the game ended..and the ref ended up punishing FOUR girls for "unsportsman like conduct"

The teen girls warmed up for the match with the shirts but were warned they would have to wear their official kits in line with Vermont Principal's Association rules

Supporters then began yelling "equal pay" on the stands and the ref again pulled the yellow chard for those seen wearing the white short sleeve shirts as they admit they got "carried away"by whipping their clothes "all the way off" as they only intended to show it briefly while keeping their uniforms on

But they said the stunt was worth it as they thanked everyone in support and said "We heard your #EQUALPAY chants from all over the field"

It gained the support of Pro US Soccer player Brandi Chastain who tweeted their bravery for standing up for their beliefs as Vermont Democrat Senator, Patrick Leahy and his wife also wore the jersey that they bought..The ref who even carded them BOUGHT ONE.

An even bigger statement was that the BOYS team supported them too and bought the jerseys for 18% MORE in reflection of the state's average male to female pay gap.

The money will support youth soccer leagues as Helen Worden said "It goes for everyone, every girl, every woman in the world, it's not just about sports. It's about women's rights for equal pay for equal work"

Charging men more doesnt solve any perceived pay gap, paying women the same as men for the same work does. This is usually the case and as a rule the pay gap is a myth since they are using the states average male to female pay gap instead of actual wages for any particular job performed, where gender based discrimination is already illegal.

Yes, equal pay is a "thing" but it isn't a "thing" that occurs in any parts of the world on a wholesale basis. There are quite a bit of statistics about the pay gap between men and women in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, just to name a few.

There are also places that pay women more... or jobs that only hire women. Or only women can work because men will always be accused of something...

I think for anything like school sports, publicly funded stuff, it's pretty fucking offensive to not give boys and girls the same access to resources. For real. It's bogus. At a professional level, market dictates pay.

The problem is, that doesn't end with your simple statement. Things never are that easy and people like you are never willing to run the operations to implement the change. The boy's football team will get all the money, then the girl's softball team will demand the same. Then the fashion club will want all the same shit too. You can't really break it into even parts when girls don't want to equally participate.

Ideologically this easy to just sit there and say SAME SAME SAME. Equal equal equal! Administrating it ends up killing all of it because then the money is spread so thin that only booster clubs can subsidize the proper amount.

We cannot set iron equality standards for shit like this when the numbers and interest is asymmetrical. Places are so different that localized administration and outside funding are needed just to make things work. If you start trying to put in layered top down authority on these things, you're going to get more participation from setting and enforcing the standards than even the participation for the activities. Then the whole planet is fucking obsessed with it.

Oh but what's that you say? Your plan wasn't so over arching? You just meant boys and girls per sport/activity? Well what about Susie and her friends who disagree and want everything equal across the board?

You know what happens when everyone has to get a penny for every individual thing? No one gets a penny. These ideas you're talking about aren't so fucking simple. And just because you think all this is a no-brainer and the market is good for pro sports doesn't mean your more disagreeable neighbors aren't saying fuck pro sports too.

We heard you guys in the 50's when the men came back from war and no one had jobs right away due to the textile industry being used for the war effort. We loved our soldiers and so we let you pass the welfare for them.

Then Susie and her fucking friends took your idea and by 1968, the entire lower end was up for welfare and the illegitimacy of the black family increased by like 60%

The only answer is to make a compromise at every turn as locally as possible. Freedom to choose for all people and never someone in Iowa deciding what someone in Georgia has for school uniforms. The world is inundated with people that have all these "good ideas" when all it really needs is people to put their effort where their mouth is.

I would say no on the grounds that some places do annual raises even if the workload/type doesn't change. So technically there could be two workers doing the same workload/type but one will get paid more simply for being around longer.

Granted at the same time, the person who has been around longer will usually also be given more responsibilities at some point so the wordload/type will no longer be equal anyway.

Now starting pay for the same workload/type should be the same especially if both workers started about the same time. Naturally of course as one worker or the other start to show better performances even for the same workload/type, a raise in pay may be justified. In my opinion sometimes it is worth paying more to keep the good employees than paying less for someone new and having to train them again.
