The DS version has the two screens which is impactful for the final plot twist

The Vita remake has voice acting though and better visuals

Hmmmm

Choose whatever has 2 screens. The game is neutered without 2 screens

I played on Vita and enjoyed it despite the inferior ending. A plus for the Vita version is that you can jump to certain points like in VLR so you can get the different endings without starting from the beginning each time.

DS. You need the dual screens. This game would not be as heralded as the cult classic it is and would not have gained the fandom it has without the implementation of the dual screens into the storyline. 999 is one of the few games that singlehandedly justified the DS line. Nintendo games aren't any of those few.

Rather than the difference in ending, 2 screens literally drive the entire narrative of the game. But I guess in a lot of ways that's spoilers

Major spoilers:

Bottom screen is past Akane narrating all the possible future she sees, top part is what's happening in those futures, which is of course our present. Also since only the bottom screen has touch, at the very end, the table is turned from Akane giving Junpei instructions to Junpei giving Akane instructions. You hold the DS upside down and use the top screen to solve the Sudoku
