I prefer the former. I can't take it seriously if the person is well-known as comedic relief, then takes a role in a serious drama.

I like serious actors doing comedy roles. Mainly because of Jason Statham in Spy, where he was basically every Jason Statham protagonist ever, but as a complete moron. He basically stole the show every time he had a scene in that movie.

What I want to see is a movie with a mainstream comedic actor playing a serious role while the mainstream serious actor is playing a comedic role. Could be a buddy cop film or something.
