serious role later?

Usually the comedy actor that does a serious role tends to be praised as people are surprised at his acting chops. But the inverse is also good.

I prefer the former. I can't take it seriously if the person is well-known as comedic relief, then takes a role in a serious drama.

What I want to see is a movie with a mainstream comedic actor playing a serious role while the mainstream serious actor is playing a comedic role. Could be a buddy cop film or something.
