This is modern wrestling for the most part. Certainly most of indy wrestling and AEW is just indy wrestling with a bigger budget. It's all about how it's a bunch of guys putting on a performance for the fans while going "hey, wrestling sure is stupid ain't it?" and then continuously taking the piss out of the thing they supposedly love. There's too many nerds in wrestling. It's nerdy wrestlers wanting to do video game and anime crap in the ring and nerdy neckbeard fans who eat it all up and love all the meta humor targeted at them. I'm a nerd, but I feel like slamming some of these people in lockers.

Of course when WWE does crap like that it's completely unacceptable and lame.

Wrestlers being unable to have fun with their jobs is one thing, but wen fans do it you realize how soulless and miserable prolonged exposure to WWE has made people. people are desperate to sound like old fashion know it alls like jim cornette or bruce prichard or something but in the end it just comes off as them cosplaying a cranky old man

Fact is even if Kenny does goofy shit during matches sometime, a Kenny Omega match in full swing is better than 90% of modern wrestling

No. Some people just like wrestling to be more treated more serious and like a simulated athletic contest like it used to be instead of just a show. The goofy stuff takes us out of the match. We can suspend our disbelief to a point, but when it becomes overly silly and fake looking we don't like it.

You can have fun and more over the top things in wrestling, but they have to come naturally and they don't have to make fun of wrestling itself.

I exaggerate, but you can't say a lot of it is overly phony looking and makes fun of itself. There's good stuff out there too, but the bad and silly stuff undermines it. Thankfully at least there's NWA Power.

He's basically a gaming nerd that was also a good enough athlete to be a top wrestler. He's came out the curtain at major events (like headlining the Tokyo Dome in front of 50,000 people) cosplaying as Street Fighter and Final Fantasy characters, his finishing move is called the One Winged Angel.

I wouldn't tie Cassidy in with Ryan and Stunt. Ryan and Cassidy can wrestle, they just have weird gimmicks. Stunts just weird in general, hard to take him serious. Cassidy usually has a break point during the match where he actually wrestles normally, but since he is known for that gimmick its going to be some time before they can change him into a serious wrestler.

I hear you, but Cassidy wasn't getting noticed prior to this gimmick. He was doing what everyone else was doing, and when he switched to this gimmick it got over. He could be worse, like Super Cop Dick Justice or Gentleman Jervis. I can only imagine Cornette would have an aneurism seeing either of them.

People want something new and interesting. It isn't about how realistic every gimmick is--If it was, the Undertaker would have sunk down the card on half of his gimmick tweaks over the years. Instead, it's about embracing an idea and personality in a way that people connect with somehow. Doesn't really matter how it's done.

That said, some of the Orange Cassidy stuff rubs me the wrong way. I think the half-hearted strikes and stuff is great, but he oversells the gimmick a bit with the hands in his pockets all the time and other facets of it. If he refined it a bit it would definitely be something I could get behind, but right now it's just a bit too corny for my tastes.

Then again, I loved Mankind and Golddust as a kid. How much more absurd is Cassidy?

I might as well add that Ryan's gimmick is solid gold, but the "Dick Flip" has a very short shelf life. I think the "Hyper-masculine phallic-obsessed to the point of latent and oblivious homosexuality" is a funny gimmick that can either be played for a legitimate threat or laughs (Depending on whether you emphasis the Ron Swanson-esque masculinity or Golddust-esque repressed sexuality).

Marko Stunt doesn't really look like he can wrestle or even sell particularly well imo, which is far bigger problem than his "gimmick", which is fine. Just another twist on Underdog.
