I am highly turned off by the trailer.

I dont like when something fixed in a specific time period is updated for modern day children. The Addams Family is firmly a retro property. To me anyway. And this has them making modern pop culture references. Should have had Christina Ricci voice Wednesday.

Not watching it. But I will watch a Nostalgia Critic and CinemaSins review of it. I think Ill watch the early 1990s movies if I want to watch anything Addams Family related over Halloween.

I sorta wish James Bond had stayed in the 50s with 50s technology.

On topic, I loved The Addams family and Addams Family Values, had to turn off Addams Family Reunion within about 10 minutes of watching, and with the trailer for the new one- don't see anything interesting or clever or good about it and I'm pretty shocked at how many huge names are in the cast.

Love the comics, love the 60s sitcom. Hated the 90s movies and never saw the musical.

Will probably see the new movie just because I'm intrigued by them sticking closer to Charles Addams' original character designs and artstyle.

Fun Fact: Charles Addams was supposedly related to John Adams, and in-canon, so is Gomez's family.

Come on, Raul Julia was the best Gomez. He took John Astins rendition and made Gomez his own.

And same with Christopher Walker as Fester and Christina Ricci as Wednesday - they were the best versions of the characters.

I was interested when I first saw the promotional material (especially because they went with the *original* art style of the comics), but the trailer was somewhat underwhelming. Of course, as a concept, there's not much that they can do when it comes to a film. It's better geared as a serial.

Granted, I enjoyed the art of the original comics, but the gags were never particularly funny.

I'm not sure it was ever "fixed in a specific time period."

Having seen Reunion in its entirety, you made the right decision. The only plus was seeing Tim Curry ham it up as Gomez.

Its also too bright and generic. Sure the character designs look like the comic strip original but it needs more than that. Its just a generic lame modern kids movie made for Halloween - like Hotel Transylvania.

I didnt like the mobile house cartoon series where they visited different locations across America. I watched it but even as a kid I thought it was dated and poor.

I saw the movie this past weekend. Overall, I'd give it a 7/10. For reference, I loved the 90s films (1 and 2 specifically), the old cartoon, the black and white show, and the Fox Family TV show. I never read the comics.

Pros:
- The movie actually gives some backstory to Gomez and Morticia before the kids and their modern life (i.e. their wedding, meeting Lurch)
- This movie probably has the best version of Pugsley (in that he's not just some normal or goofy kid). In fact, the main plot of the movie revolves around him and he gets a great scene near the end.
- The characters in general are given more depth. Wednesday is more than just a dark, brooding girl. Uncle Fester is more than an idiot. Morticia gets more focus on her past and psychology.
- The story has a good message. Despite there being a villain, we learn that both sides (the Addams and the townspeople) are at fault for the events that transpire.
- The ending has a great homage to the original black and white show (they redo the original show's intro in CGI along with the lyrics on display in sing-along fashion)
- Pop culture references were at a minimum (seriously, the trailer made it seem like it would be a lot worse than it was). Generally, they were only related to Wednesday's friend's family who were TV show/social media addicts.
- Lurch's piano solos were great transition pieces throughout the movie

Cons:
- Movie was very short. Felt like it started and ended pretty quickly.
- The villain was weak and very one dimensional. She went from 0 to 60 almost immediately.
- Some potential plot points got abandoned, making me think parts of the movie were cut (i.e. Gomez and Morticia marital issues)
- The message about assimilation and that it's okay to be different was very on-the-nose with no subtlety, and not in a funny way
- They gave Thing an eye which was kinda weird
- Some plotlines were rushed through, like Morticia's issues with Gomez's mother, the extended family dynamics, the school scenes, and the entire Cousin It cameo was underused.

Overall, I think the movie is worth seeing if you enjoy the Addams family. They cover familiar territory while throwing in some new twists. But overall, it's pretty harmless and doesn't take any big chances with its typical fish out of water plotline.

I thought it was decent for what it was. Not as good as the '90s movies, but I wasn't really expecting it to be. It's much more kid-oriented, and it's all pretty predictable. Great voice cast, though. I'd love to see Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron as live action Gomez and Morticia.

Generic was also what I was thinking. It looks like any other animated movie that I have no interest in seeing. At least attempt to give it more of a distinct style, something visually appealing.

I'm annoyed that they retconned Fester into Gomez's brother instead of Morticia's Uncle.

Doesn't make sense for them to refer to him as Uncle Fester if he's just an uncle to the kids.

Also, I'm just salty over the 90s movies cuz there will never be someone as perfect as Morticia as Caroline Jones. She was a fucking fox, and no one can live up to her lol.

Caroline Jones was adorable. I thought that was both a good and bad thing for the show.

90's morticia I think set the mood for what the family stood for a lot better. This new animated film did it pretty well too.

I loved it!
Had me laughing a lot.
Was surprised Pugsley got to have plot, since Wenseday always seemed the breakout character.

Everyone got something, and they even covered a topic I've thought about.
It's always that people don't try to understand them, and accept their differences.
But it usually isn't brought up that they don't even try to understand others either, and it was addressed!
The sword fight scene was wonderful, could have been longer.

Yeah, I kind of agree. The newer films almost have a sci-fi component to them with all the computer tech. 50s Bond is still the best version, even with as good as Skyfall was.
