It takes our company weeks to fix a business critical development feature but meanwhile GTA5 has a fully fledged fake internet and stock market system as an optional mini-game and it looks better than anything we've produced.

Yeah I get it, you stick 300 or so of the best software developers in a room together and tell them to make something fun and they will. Still, depressing.

GTA V had a development cost of about 137 million USD though, and development began shortly after GTA IV's release. I think it's understandable (?

You know what the only thing more depressing than not working in the video game industry is? Working in the vidoo game industry.

Seriously. The bosses know that literally everyone wants in, so developers are a dime a dozen and anyone can be replaced, and they can get away with the worst working conditions in the whole industry. Say goodbye to your life outside work.

I know all this stuff (bad working conditions, big budgets, etc), I'm just saying. It's impressive that they can make a fully fledged stock market in a game that is principally about stealing cars and murdering.
