It is indeed.
Hit a road block with the first boss, but eventually got good.
Then did optional SUPER tough stuff...
But Boss Rush Godmaster DLC was too much.

The game has a lovely charm, and interesting plot. Several endings and secrets too.

It's a decent game that's bogged down by a bit of a "git gud" mentality. There are a lot of things that should be included by default that you instead have to find, and sometimes make a sacrifice just to use because of the charm system. Some of that stuff is just fluff too. I don't understand why the game is so long and the map is so huge. I guess some people think bigger is better, more bang for your buck, etc., but this type of genre is good at around 10 hours IMO but instead it's two or three times that long.

Godmaster DLC finally defeated me... got within two bosses of beating the final pantheon but damn those final steps are the hardest.

the main game is awesome. it is difficult, without ever being unfair. great maps and sense of exploration.

the DLC tho, especially godmasters are for masochists. i barely even beat the first tier and i noped out

I loved that game, and it absolutely blew my mind that such a rich and deep lore with so much content and character could have been built by 3 fucking people.

I was a bit salty at how hard some of the stuff was, but I guess most of that stuff was optional anyway. But I very nearly rage quit it early on because I was used to videogames holding my hands with regular save points. The save points in this game are brutal.

I liked it at first but I got bored very quickly by lack of direction in where to go next. Some people might enjoy that and I did at first but I ended up getting frustrated and quitting.

My main beef with it is that the character progression is kinda boring. You don't feel particularly powerful late game nor do you get any really cool upgrades.

Still a good game tho!

I love Metroid-style games so I own this one but haven't played it. Hearing good things about the challenge which is always welcome. Just finished up Salt and Sanctuary which I've heard is pretty similar to Hollow Knight in challenge. Can't wait for HK to kick my ass and plan on doing 100% of it.

Because people like content and lots of places to explore? This isn't rocket science.

Its probably the only Metroidvania game I truly loved, generally that genre doesnt hook me. I didnt beat it though, forget why, but I got pretty far in it.

You "truly loved" it but couldn't be bothered to beat it? Huh??

3 people? That's... wow. Didn't know that.

I'm amazed at the work these small teams can do. Axiom Verge was made by one guy and Salt & Sanctuary was made by two people and both were pretty great.

Oh yeah, this too, it's such a clash with the large size of the game. Somehow the map is way bigger than similar games yet it feels like the amount of barriers (and meaningful abilities to tie to them) feels like less than those games. Not to mention the lack of any cosmetic change to your character is pretty disappointing.
