And that's one reason why it works so well. When it does the ridiculous, like taking a septic truck and painting the town brown or the ridiculous cutscene where Boss kills Sunshine, it does it well. When it does the serious, such as Carlos's mauling + death or Aisha sacrificing herself, it ALSO does it well. It has a balance in tone that makes it feel so real, characters that you actually care for, and an incredible sandbox to have all kinds of fun in, too.

It's been in my top 5 games ever for a decade, and there's a good reason for that.

I'm hoping they fix the alternate control schemes, because it's pretty standard to use R2 to accelerate and L2 to brake now, and the original had an alternate control scheme where everything else was awkward.

Uh, it was basically what everyone wanted out of GTAIV after San Andreas, instead of the turd that GTAIV turned out to be. Pretty obvious why it's so beloved. And it obviously wasn't cheap in the slightest.

Wonder if there's any chance of a belated SR1 PC port. Or if they'll go with my idea of making SR5 a semi-remake of SR1, but with time-travelling aliens and SR4-era Saints crashing the storyline.

The first one was a knock-off. The second one distanced itself enough to be good. The third one gave up on trying to be anything approaching serious, and if you didn't buy the fall-any-distance-and-take-no-damage mod and immediately throw yourself off the tallest building then you were doing it wrong.

One conversation I had with a friend led to her suggesting that the opening to SR5 be some crazy over-the-top ridiculous thing, which then prompts Boss at a meeting to shoot the movie studio bigwig producing it, saying "Come on, let's take our city back."

In other words, it would be hinted that SR3 and SR4 were movies too, and that Boss grew increasingly jaded and decided to go back to gang-bangin' because it was more fun. And yes, it would return to Stilwater, where three new gangs will have taken over the turf in the time that the Saints were movie stars.

Insurance fraud is so fun for this very reason. And that was something they had from the very beginning.

SR1 and SR2 are typically considered the spiritual successors to GTA San Andreas because they retain the same feel. Whereas GTAIV turned out to be something different, and in a very bad way.
