Ive had to do it a couple times sadly. Sometimes youre friends with someone but they change or you just slowly realize that theyve always been a cruddy person.

Honestly life is better when you just spend time with the people you do care about and stop thinking about everyone else.

yeah, I've had friends come close for me to consider it too.

yeah, i stopped talking to someone because they decided they only wanted to hang out with people who smoke weed all day and visiting became awkward as hell and like they wanted me to leave the whole time

I had one friend that stole from my brother, it was easy to stop hanging out because he lives like three hours away.

I have another one who might be racist or even a white supremacist. Some things he says in jest sound a bit off. Dont have any definitive proof so I will maintain the relationship for now.

Sucks doesn't it. Seems easy to do what they found so hard looking back. I find myself stunted in beginning to adequately describe the right way that was the state of things. Better to just read your replies and know I did the right thing. Beating the dead horse in my mind makes me afraid the fucker will came back alive, dooming me to forget and forgive repeating the same bullshit for eternity.

I had a buddy growing up that would run his mouth a lot then when confronted say things like I dont want to fight, you fuckface! Despite the light that example paints him in, he wasnt a bad guy. He was just really anxious much of the time and let it get the best of him in his youth.

How I dealt with it was by not getting involved in his messes. He wasnt bothered that I hung him to dry when he got himself into trouble. Thats the crux of what kept our friendship alive. If not for that, there is no way Id have stuck around.

Toxic is a pretty broad term though. Everyone has a different tolerance and definition. Im extremely fucking uncomfortable around drug users but Im cool sitting around in the middle of nowhere with the boys firing off rifles or shotguns, even though theyre objectively deadly. Other people may reverse those feels. Its a hard thing to tell somebody how to handle.

At the end of the day, if you think the other person is toxic, they are to you. Cut them loose and stop being their victim.

Yes, someone who only really cared about themselves, was very selfish and acted like the entire world revolved around themselves, without accounting for the feelings of other people. That person was extremely insensitive to how I and others felt in situations where that person should've known better by imagining themselves in the same situation, and that person rarely put others first ahead of themselves, despite others doing that for them plenty of times.

Whoa whoa whoa. Wait. Wait. There is such a thing as non toxic friends?

Fortunately, no. I am either picky when choosing friends and/or such person and I were never friends for long or stayed merely acquaintances.
