It does not, on purpose.

OK, so you're saying they don't, but the president of Blizzard specifically states

"Over the weekend, blitzchung used his segment to make a statement about the situation in Hong Kongin violation of rules he acknowledged and understood, and this is why we took action."

That makes it sound like they do in fact have those rules in place in some form.

This is the rule Blizzard themselves says was "broken".

Engaging in any act that, in Blizzards sole discretion, brings you into public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public, or otherwise damages Blizzard image will result in removal from Grandmasters and reduction of the players prize total to $0 USD, in addition to other remedies which may be provided for under the Handbook and Blizzards Website Terms.

Any action can be claimed to offend anyone. It's written in a way where no specific action is specified, it just says Blizzard gets to decide if you should be punished or not.

So you're saying they don't have the rule but then post the actual rule?

And btw, I want to say that I'm not trying to say Blizzard is right for what they're doing, just that they have rules about it.

Actually It appears everyone was jumping to conclusions as if Blizzard's punishment was to side with the opposition. They actually just came out and said their decision was not based around appeasing China at all and that they punish all players that use the platform for their social/political commentary.

Also the backlash did have some positive results, the guy got his prize money back and his punishment halved along with the commentators.

Blizzard literally posted in China this.

https://www.dailywire.com/news/gaming-companys-statement-regarding-player-who-voiced-support-for-hong-kong-was-different-in-chinese

We would like to express our strong anger and condemnation at what happened at the Hearthstone Asia Tournament last weekend. We also strongly object to the spreading of personal political beliefs during any contests. The contestant involved (Blitzchung) will be banned from participating in any contests, and the broadcasters involved will also be immediately stopped from working (under Blizzard). Meanwhile, we will, as always, be determined to defend the pride of the country (China).

Them claiming China was uninvolved with their decision making is bull crap.

The rule doesn't say "you can't make political statements", it says "we get to decided if you get punished or fired for any reason if we feel like it".

Which is dancing around the point anyway, because their actions show they care more about money than human rights. The fact that they used their rights as a company to fire or punish "employees" at their personal discretion doesn't change that.

That is not Blizzard. That is the Chinese company that provides Blizzard servers in China.

Why else would they say:

"We are very angered and disappointed at what happened at the event and do not condone it in any way. We also highly object the spreading of personal political beliefs in this manner...We will always respect and defend the pride of our country."

Blizzard's home country isn't China :/

Just a video talking about the subject. And I do agree with what he says towards the end about what Blizzard should have done.

Blizzard is completely within their rights to suspend a player for voicing political views during one of their broadcasts, inasmuch as it impacts their bottom line.

yeah?

then why didn't they take any action on the american team that did the exact same thing?

I have no idea, nor do I care. How Blizzard chooses to mete out discipline is entirely up to them.

I simply pass judgement on the end results. Which, in this case, was tremendously shitty.

That's not the reason.

It's because organized religion is not allowed, and by extension any creatures of superstition that might be sourced from stories linked to religion are not allowed.

Because the CCP is aware that organized religion is a method of gathering people against them, and they believe this is a way to prevent that.

Technically, it could. If Blizzard agrees with the statement, the you probably wont get punished for it, political or not. But if they dont agree, then they try to destroy you and everything you stand for or whatever...

This. Liberals in this thread thinks feelings matter over facts and legal contracts. Had the banner player used the platform to voice contentious issues in the US and got banned, half the people here would applaud Blizzard.

The specific views expressed by blitzchung were NOT a factor in the decision we made. I want to be clear: our relationships in China had no influence on our decision.

Blizzard is right to protect its brand and this is little different from any other violation of a public appearance policy that Blizzard might put on players. The first responsibility of a company is to its shareholders. As for the punishment, a suspension is makes the thing more fair.
