I would think this would be a problem. Rich people's money is very influential and can help them avoid prison or at least sentencing that is extreme in length/punishment. Or they can use their money to commit crimes without being detected so easily. How many rich and impactful people are getting killed hitmen paid for by other rich/impactful people would are treading on their money/power? What about these drug overdoses? How many of these are actually murders? What do you think?

I edtited the op. Yes, like say a rich person's money is at stake because some other person is competition, or is a very influential person making waves with their voice...or twitter, music, etc.

Being rich doesn't work like it used to in, say, medievel Europe. Despite the stereotypes of "wealth hoarding", you can't actually have your money sitting around in big bins (well, you can, to a certain extent, but it turns out not to work so well). Wealth these days isn't so much about how much money you have, per se, but about how much money flows through you, and how much of that flow you can tap for your own use at a given moment.

But in order for that to work, you need places for the money to come from, amd you need places for it to go. And that means rich people need other rich people in ways that they just didn't in years gone by. This has done quite a lot to tamp down on violence between rich and impactful people: obviously it hasn't gotten rid of it completely, but as networks have grown more important, the need for assassins has gone way down.

Imagine paying to have a small inescapable nuke shot at someone you want dead...but the nuke suddenly turns back in your direction because the target decided to pay more.

Being a hit man is a business.
And to add insult to injury, so is blackmail...

Rich people can afford hitmen who would rather the rich, so get them on your payroll and well.

Only when you have one like Epstein where there were easily handled problems like guards and there's a collective group that wants him dead will you see a rich person dying from an obvious hit.
