It's crazy how the HD era really killed off so many talented studios or made them stick to handhelds because HD was too hard for them. But why?

The jump to HD hasn't been worth it IMO.
And I'm not even like into most Japanese games anymore. --- "Wait a minute...If I ever get a hold of you, I will thank you for showing me the futility of human endeavor." ... Copied to Clipboard!

So an average PS2 game runs up to 480p. This is about 300,000 pixels.
An average PS3 game runs up to 720p, which you might think is not even twice as big, but in reality, it comes to around 900,000 pixels.), or about three times as big. "But wait", I hear you thinking, "why does that matter with 3D graphics?" Because the textures still need to work for the resolution. In fact, these days, they often release multiple vetsioms of the textures to match the potential resolutions. --- 53 LIII 0b110101 p16 0x35 ... Copied to Clipboard!
